You won’t find leaves that turn in shades of brown and amber in Singapore, lest we find ourselves stricken by a heatwave.
As if taking the cue from the lights that have already been strung up, Mandarin Orchard has gotten into the spirit, giving us a preview of what we should look forward to when we gather with friends and family this coming Christmas with their Christmas Takeaway Goodies.
These are some excellent festive takeaways to consider for any upcoming Christmas party, especially the Honey-Glazed Gammon Ham which our office had the pleasure of sharing.
Without further ado, let’s check out what Mandarin Orchard’s kitchen has in store:
Christmas is all about tender roasts that are slow-cooked to develop maximum flavour. The Roasted U.S. Black Angus Beef Ribeye with Green Peppers (3kg $390) is just that – slow roasted with green peppers to give a sweet contrast to the savoury beef.
Come Christmas, cometh various meats wrapped in pastry. Kept cosy, warm and not to mention juicy, is the Oven Roasted Berkshire Pork Rack with Yuzu Himalayan Salt Crust (3kg $230). Light on the palate, thanks to the yuzu working its citrus-y magic, this pork rack is also lean and tender. Making seconds all too easy to say yes to.
We’re sure the Baked Norwegian Salmon Fillet with Watercress Crust (1.5kg $135) will be a hit at Christmas gatherings, we’re already certain it’ll be this year’s Christmas miracle.
The watercress crust doesn’t overpower the natural flavour of the salmon, instead, it adds a layer of freshness before the moist, oily salmon melts and flakes apart in your mouth.
The festive season wouldn’t feel quite right without this Christmas mainstay. Mandarin Orchard’s Roasted U.S. Turkey (6kg $218/8kg $238) doesn’t do anything revolutionary. Instead, it simply does this classic very well — stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and all.
For profound poultry that will have you singing praises, you’ll positively have to try the Roasted London Duck with Chinese Herbs (2.8kg $85). The slices of dark aromatic meat with a hint of citrus were perfect with the thin layer of fat, which always makes duck a joy to eat.
Sweet, salty and aromatic — the Premium Honey-Glazed Gammon Ham (boneless 4.2kg-4.5kg $318) returns, the fragrance of cloves and sweet spiced sauce lets everyone know that Christmas has well and truly arrived.
No Christmas feast is complete without a yule log. The Valrhona Delicious Dulcey Yule Log (1kg $80) makes a return, while the Red Velvet Yule Log (1kg $80) makes its first appearance.
Christmas presents and all other material needs can wait, instead enjoy the company of friends and family over a hearty Christmas meal in the comfort of your home that will warm your hearts and souls, though we rarely need warmth in Singapore the cynics and grinches amongst us might say.
This is Christmas you can eat, and boy are we thankful for that.
