Bakery M’s second outlet brings its UFO Tarts and stretchy Mochi Bread to Orchard

If you’re a frequent visitor of the CBD, you may be familiar with the vibrantly-coloured Bakery M, which often draws crowds in its outlet in The Arcade at Raffles Place. Bakery M has now opened its second outlet in the basement of Wisma Atria in Orchard, making its delectable bakes even more accessible.

Bakery M’s founder has over 20 years of experience in the baking industry, working with chefs from Taiwan and Japan. As a result, their recipes are largely influenced by Taiwan and Japan.

Bakery M’s Wisma Atria outlet had its soft opening on 28 June 2022. The bakery is famous for its UFO Tarts (S$2.60), a popular local treat from the small town of Sandankan in Sabah, Malaysia. It features a cute UFO-shaped pastry with meringue surrounding a well of flowy custard.

I was expecting the base of the UFO Tart to be cookie-like, but was surprised that it was soft and tasted like a cake. The custard had a strong eggy aroma and was soft and slightly runny. Though I didn’t find the UFO Tart to be as strong and fragrant as I would have liked, its lightness was a welcome delight.

Unfortunately, their UFO Tarts in the flavours of Mochi and Matcha are not yet available at the new outlet and are only being sold in their outlet at The Arcade. Hopefully, their other UFO Tart flavours will be brought to Wisma Atria soon.

mochi bread - m bakery

Bakery M’s mochi breads, on the other hand, are filled with mochi that is handmade by the Bakery M staff almost everyday, with flavours like Biscoff Caramel Mochi (S$2.10), Peanut Butter Mochi (S$1.90), Hainan Kaya Mochi (S$1.90), Mochi Anpan (S$1.90), Fan-CHEESE-tic Mochi (S$2.10) and Creamy Cranberry Mochi (S$2.30).

The breads were incredibly soft and pillowy and filled with an adequate amount of sweet fillings. The Biscoff Caramel Mochi Bread certainly stands out as a bread that would appeal to those with a sweet tooth, though the Hainan Kaya Mochi was my favourite as it was fragrant and had a surprising hint of saltiness to balance out the sweetness of the kaya.

bakery m - rusk

Other best-selling products sold at Bakery M include their Tamago Mayonezu Ham (S$2.10), Mentaiko Japan (S$3) and Crunchy Cranberry and Raisin (S$4), which is a sugar bread rusk embedded with bits of cranberries. With its incredibly crunchy texture and lovely sweetness, I found the Crunchy Cranberry and Raisin to be a great snack. However, I was informed that it was not yet available at Wisma Atria due to manpower issues, so hopefully it will be sold there soon.
