New in town: Chinese Tofu Magician, Paya Lebar — Taste the magic of soy

Amidst the fancy of soy lattes and soy as a replacement for the things we stave away from, here is an entrant into the market of soymilk beverages and desserts. The newly minted Chinese Tofu Magician has opened its doors at Paya Lebar Square, a food haven in the heartlands.

Trust a shop with such a namesake to brew creative concoctions from soybeans. Soy milk, beancurd, soy ice cream are the basics—they amp them up with the likes of mochi, soy foam and more creative ingredients. It’s no wonder that they’re quickly ascending the ranks of popularity, selling out early since their opening on 7 July 2021.

Colourful cups in hues of red, white and blue are not the only eye-catching thing here. A stick of white jade balls lusciously covered in cream and topped with a smack of soy powder hangs across the rim, scoring Instagram points for their Soy Milk Tea with Soy Foam and White Jade Balls (S$5.90). You can anticipate mouthfuls of delicious sweetness and textural layers with this one.

Their Black Sesame iteration of this drink is equally tempting; a visual representation of how black sesame numbers should be done. Boasting a trio of black sesame specked dango and chunks of black sesame beancurd peeking from the bottom, it’s one I can definitely get behind.

Also, their take on a classic fruity dessert, Mango Pomelo Sago with Soya Bean (S$5.10), sounds refreshingly promising, so you know a hearty one to go for to beat the heat.

With an in-house traditional ancient stone grinding technology, you know it’s serious business. And maybe, that’s the wand of Chinese Tofu Magician, channelling the magic in their cups.
