New in town: Club Street Wine Room, Club St — Michelin-starred Andrew Walsh’s fun boozy affair

If you’ve been paying close attention to the local dining scene, you’d have heard of Chef Andrew Walsh. The Irish chef has gone from strength to strength, opening homerun after homerun, including Cure which recently got its first Michelin Star.

But besides cooking and serving his customers the best of Ireland, the food closest to his heart, chef Andrew is also something of a maverick and manoeuvres around cuisine with pep and mischief. After playful Asian-fusion concepts such as the highly-raved Catfish, Club Street Wine Room is a more stripped-down affair from the chef.

Unlike his usual repertoire of envelope-pushing restaurants, Club Street Wine Room will be his first wine bar concept. And it’s every bit as elegant as you’d expect from a wine bar, but also every bit as modern and quirky as you’d expect from Chef Andrew.

Firstly, as a wine bar, the establishment provides a dizzying slew of unique labels and bottles. Treat your palate to gems such as the sea-aged Sea Soul No. 4 (S$405) and the Chateau Kefraya Collection Amphora 2018 (S$29/S$88), a unique fermented wine that no one else in Asia thought to bring in before they did.

But Club Street Wine Room is not just a mere wine bar either. Chef Andrew envisions it as a fun affair where food will be given as much focus as the tipples, like in its bustling contemporaries such as Wine RVLT.

So watch out for that maverick edge that chef Ho Jun Yip, formerly head chef of Butcher Boy, will look to vicariously instil for chef Andrew.  If you’re a sucker for fried chicken then it’s a no-brainer to pair your happy juice with a side of AFC—Andrew’s Fried Chicken (S$6) that’s the chef’s special recipe.

Otherwise, fun can be had while you nibble on some other intriguing bites from Club Street Wine Room including BBQ Oysters with Bacon Jam (S$10) or a S$58 Weekend Roast Set that includes rustic treats such as Woodfired Guinea Fowl & Pithivier Pie and Beef Fat Yorkshire Pudding.
