Join me as I lead you through each step, turning a simple chicken egg into an extravagant, delectable snack that is sure to awe your guests.
With that, I present to you my Crispy Bacon Golden Eggs recipe.
Ingredients
- 16 eggs (12 for consumption, 4 for coating)
- 150g sour cream
- 100g streaky bacon
- 5g fresh dill (or chives if available)
- 40g mayonnaise
- 200g plain flour
- 200g breadcrumbs
- 4 to 6 packets of chilli sauce
- Black pepper
This recipe is good enough for about 6 people. Feel free to tweak the quantity based on your party size.
Preparation
Step 1: Fill a large pot or wok (whichever you prefer) with water to prepare for boiling the eggs.
Step 2: Once the water reaches a vigorous boil, slightly lower the heat, carefully place the eggs inside, and set the timer for 8 minutes.
Step 3: Instead of idly staring at blank space or scrolling through your Instagram feed for 8 minutes, utilise the time productively.
Cut the streaky bacon into 4 equal parts. (Note: I cut them into 3, and they were slightly too large). Pluck the fine tips of the dill from the thick stems and proceed to rough chop them for later garnish later on. Alternatively, chives or parsley can also be used.
Step 4: As the timer approaches completion, prepare a container of iced water nearby. When the eggs are done, promptly transfer them into the iced water to cool rapidly.
Step 5: Peel the boiled eggs and cut it in half.
Step 6: Separate the yolks from the whites by gently twisting the egg whites, ensuring a smooth and swift separation. Avoid using a spoon (as pictured above), as it may result in a messy and laborious process.
Step 7: Add in 150g of sour cream. If you have leftover chilli sauce packets from your Western food takeaways, use about 4 to 6 of them and add a few dashes of black pepper for an extra kick.
Tip: McDonald’s garlic chilli sauce will be an excellent choice!
Step 8: Add approximately 40g of mayonnaise. I recommend using Don Don Donki‘s mustard mayonnaise (yellow cap) from Kewpie for an additional burst of flavour. Then mix everything well until it becomes a smooth paste.

Step 9: Setup your 3-step breading station with plain flour (200g), 4 eggs (beaten) and breadcrumbs (200g).
Step 10: Evenly coat the egg whites with plain flour, ensuring to dust off any excess. Next, dip the egg whites into the beaten egg mixture.
Step 11: Dredge the egg whites in breadcrumbs and set them aside. Heat up a wok of frying oil in preparation.
Step 12: Once the oil is ready, carefully submerge them in the frying oil for deep frying. Avoid over-frying to prevent the egg whites from puffing up and forming unsightly air bubbles.
Step 13: Once the morsels of egg white have become golden brown, sieve them out onto a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Step 14: If you don’t have a piping bag, a simple plastic bag will suffice. Spoon the yolk mixture into the bag and tie the top into a knot.
Step 15: Fry the bacon pieces until they achieve a rich-brown colour. (If this was done at step 5, the bacon might lose its desired crispiness).
Step 16: Cut a corner of the plastic bag, making it large enough for the filling to flow out in a steady stream. Exert slight pressure and pipe the filling (circular motion) into the gap.
Step 17: Add the fried bacon to the filling and sprinkle it with the previously prepared chopped dill for garnish.
And there you have it— a delectable breaded egg topped with a creamy, slightly sweet and spicy yolk filling, complemented by crispy bacon and herbs. It boasts a visually stunning appearance and offers an utterly luxurious taste experience.
