Fans of Initial D might recognise the familiar look of Fujiwara Tofu Shop at first glance, but this Johor Bahru newcomer has a few surprises up its sleeve.

Yucee Cafe in Permas City, JB takes inspiration from the iconic anime, though you won’t find the usual tofu shop menu here. Instead of sticking to traditional tau fu fah, it puts a creative spin on the humble soy dessert, with a cafe by day and bar by night concept to round things off.

Forget the typical brown sugar syrup and taro balls, this cafe experiments with flavours such as crème brûlée, black sesame and matcha. One creation worth checking out is TauFuFaaaaa, which swaps the usual sugary toppings for a lightly savoury milk foam and a drizzle of honey.

There’s a reason to visit even if tofu pudding isn’t your thing. During the day, Yucee Cafe serves coffee and matcha for those who fancy a slow afternoon, while evenings bring out its bar side, with cocktails, mocktails and house-made drinks.

Going with a group? Get the 6-glass cocktail set, which works out to around RM19.70 per glass. You can mix and match flavours, even throw in a mystery drink, and save any unfinished drinks for your next visit.

Beer lovers can also try locally crafted brews by KL-based Monster & Beer, featuring tropical fruit-forward flavours and varying alcohol strengths rather than the usual bitter profiles.
Yucee Cafe in JB brings together a little bit of nostalgia, a playful take on traditional tau fu fah and a cafe-bar concept that gives you a reason to visit at different times of the day. Even if you’re not an Initial D fan, the unique tofu choices and vibes alone make for a fun change worth adding to your itinerary.
