A family of 3 fell ill and were subsequently hospitalised after dining at Haidilao, reported The Straits Times on 20 Mar 2024.
The family, which is believed to consist of 2 children, had dined at the Haidilao Northshore Plaza outlet on 10 Mar 2024. According to an official statement by Haidilao, the outlet was informed by the affected customers on 14 Mar that they had fallen sick after consuming food there.

After receiving the feedback, the outlet underwent inspections by relevant departments on 16 and 18 Mar. Information related to the family’s meals that day, including food products, test reports and CCTV footage were provided, and Haidilao is currently awaiting the outcome of the inspection.
Haidilao added that on the day the family dined and reportedly fell ill, 220 tables had been served, but only the family of 3 had reportedly been affected by the food.

Haidilao emphasised its strong focus on food safety and revealed that internal food safety inspections are conducted on a daily basis, with third-party professional agencies being engaged twice a month to disinfect and sterilise their premises. They also assured customers that they will continue to “improve the stability and safety of food quality”.
At the time of writing, the Haidilao Northshore Plaza outlet remains open.
Haidilao is one of the most popular hotpot chains in the world, with 20 outlets in Singapore alone. This famous restaurant is recognised for its customer service— diners can request for various free items while dining, and can even ask for the servers to dance and perform for them. The restaurant also offers free services like manicures, and recently, in line with the Eras Tour in Singapore, allowed diners to make friendship bracelets for free.
With food safety being a rising concern among many local F&B establishments, hopefully more restaurants, cafes and eateries will take extra caution to avoid such incidents.
