HANS IM GLÜCK at Vivocity specialises in creating a healthy and nutritious meal that appeals to people of all ages. To celebrate their third year in Singapore, HANS IM GLÜCK has created a new menu which features 10 new burgers—two of which are vegan—offering the largest vegan and vegetarian burger selection.

As I headed into the restaurant, it seemed like I entered a magical German birch tree wonderland, with the smell of wood permeating the entire store. The picturesque backdrop set the mood of the meal, and I knew I was off to a good start.

To kick start the meal, I had the latest drink available on the new menu, Eistee Forest Berry & Cucumber (S$6). Just as the name suggests, the drink had the tartness of berries and the crisp aftertaste of the cucumbers. This drink was an enhanced version of iced lemon tea, which was ideal to have with the burgers.

Well, you definitely could not have burgers without fries. Relish in 1 pfund glück (S$11), with either thick cut fries or sweet potato fries served with sour cream-scallion sauce.

Their signature side? Definitely the sweet potato fries. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, this side was definitely to-die-for!

Each burger was served with fresh lettuce, red onions, sun-ripened tomatoes and the signature HANS IM GLÜCK sauce. There was the option of having your burger done up with either sourdough bread, multigrain bun or naked (patty wrapped in lettuce).

I had to try the new vegan burger available on the menu. Beherzter (S$18) was created with the Moving Mountain patty, which is a plant-based patty made from mushrooms. As I bit into the burger, I was baffled. The patty resembled beef, with the texture and the consistency of beef.

To make the burger more convincing, it incorporated vegan cheese. Had I not known that the burger was vegan, I would have assumed that it was a cheeseburger.

To all my herbivore friends, do not miss out on this burger. Absolutely incredible!

The next vegan burger that I had was Schafhirte (S$16). This was a different take on a vegan burger, with the patty made from olives and feta cheese. Now, this burger definitely required an acquired taste. It had a red pepper sauce drip, which reminded me of a pizza. The combination of olives, feta cheese and raw onions stood out as bold flavours.

For those who prefer burgers with a milder taste, this might not suit your palate.

The next burger I tried was Landgockel (S$17). Packed with a tender, juicy chicken breast and mushroom, the burger had a woody, earthy taste. Topped off with a sunny-side-up egg, the umami flavours of the burger exploded in my mouth.

The final burger I had was the only burger with a beef patty. Kraftpaket (S$17), German for powerhouse, had a black pepper crusted beef patty. Packed with crispy bacon and a delicate sunny-side-up egg, this burger definitely delivered like a powerhouse.

The patty was coated with a layer of black pepper, so it might be too overpowering for those who prefer a milder taste.

I had the good fortune of trying another meat-free burger too. Waldschrat (S$16) was made up of a walnut patty with mushrooms, and then topped off with sour cream-scallion sauce. To describe how this patty tasted, just imagine a bergedil—a fried potato patty that is usually seen in Malay cuisine. The patty had a similar texture to that. To achieve the optimal balance of crunch and mushiness, I choose the multigrain bun.

Craving a delicious burger set but not wanting to spend an exorbitant amount of money? I have the right deal here for you!

Simply top up S$5 for a non-alcoholic set, or S$9 for an alcoholic set! The additional fee on top of the price of any burger allows you to pick one side dish, one drink as well as a hot beverage. What a steal indeed!
