Mookata‘s the kind of meal that’s so effortlessly scrumptious—gather some friends, pop some bottles, and enjoy a host of tasty ingredients done two ways. I just love it, and it’s even better when someone else does all the prep work and cleaning for you. Happy Pot, a local hotpot and barbecue destination, is combining their two areas of expertise and bringing us not only mookata, but a 1 Metre Platter Set (S$29.90+) that boasts 1kg worth of food and feeds three to four diners.

The set is only available at their dine-in outlet at HomeTeamNS Balestier-JOM, along Ah Hood Road, unlike their well-known takeout steamboat and barbecue sets that come with pots provided. The mookata set is graced by a milky, tonkotsu broth that’s boiled and perfected in-house, and it only gets better with the help of the sweet, sweet juices of cooked meat as they overflow.

What exactly makes up 1kg of food, you ask? There are the usual staples like marinated chicken and pork belly which make the perfect sizzle that a mookata would be incomplete without. There’s also a fair share of seafood like the asari clams and prawn for the crustacean-loving one, and squid rings and fishballs that are oh-so-easy to eat.

Of course, just like in any good bowl of mala xiang guo, the hotdog and crabstick make their appearance atop a mookata grill too, sort of like that one friend in the group that often gets sidelined, but something always feels empty whenever they aren’t around. Don’t worry, I see you, hotdogs.

Eggs and glass noodles are always what I look forward to the most in any do-it-yourself meal. Many mock me for stuffing myself with a few of the cheapest ingredients in the mix, but not even that can separate me from my beloved carbs and eggs.

Finally, the rest of the group rises to greet us, of which we have xiao bai cai, enoki, and oyster mushroom. Whether you genuinely enjoy your greens and fungi or are just looking to clock in that nutrition, the fresh fare at Happy Pot makes for a wholesome, all-encompassing mookata meal nonetheless.

The platter launches on 22 March 2021, and is available for order when you dine in.
