New in town: MADU The Bakery, Jalan Besar — Home baker opens physical outlet with loaded garlic cheese and mentaiko buns

There’s a new bakery in town to go mad over. MADU The Bakery, formerly a home-based business, opened its physical store along Race Course Road on 17 May 2022.

Established in 2021, MADU The Bakery derived its name from the Bahasa Indonesian word for honey. Using simple and familiar ingredients, MADU The Bakery strives to evoke a sense of nostalgia in its customers.

If you’re paying a visit to MADU The Bakery, you must absolutely try their signature stuffed brioche buns. The Classic Garlic Bun (S$5.50) features their take on the popular garlic cheese buns, except instead of cream cheese, MADU The Bakery uses cheddar and parmesan for a more savoury experience.

The Umami Mushroom Bun (S$6), on the other hand, is loaded with shimeji mushrooms, wakame and shiitake paste, cheddar, parmesan, nori, furikake and more, making it the ultimate umami bomb. Personally, I’m definitely leaning towards trying this.

Mentaiko and sushi lovers can look forward to the Mentaiko Bun (S$6.50), topped with a generous amount of mentaiko and filled with mentai mayo. Though I’m not a mentaiko fanatic, I’m certainly tempted to have this stunning bun.

Other bakes at MADU The Bakery’s physical outlet include their Cranberry Rose Bread (S$14.90), a whole bread loaf made with Japanese bread flour, French flour, cranberries and rose petals, and the Shio Pan (S$2), a classic Japanese bake.

If you’re craving a sweeter option, try the Espresso Pistachio Cake (S$9.90), with espresso mousse and pistachio paste, or the Bolu Keju (S$6), a spin on the popular Indonesian Bolu Meranti cake, that comes with cheddar cheese and vanilla whipped cream.

Though I’ve yet to try MADU The Bakery’s tantalising bakes, trust me when I say that I will be paying a visit very soon.
