With origins from Java, Indonesia, nasi ambeng is a traditional communal dish that was immensely popular back in the 1960s to 1980s. In this multicultural society that we live in today, nasi ambeng is no longer limited to the Javanese community. Despite it being a less popular ‘nasi’ dish in our local food scene, there are in fact, a handful of eateries in Singapore selling wallet and portion friendly versions of this ceremonial dish.
