In the days of COVID-19, countless businesses have stepped up to the plate to support each other and those in need, even when finances are tight. This time, a young entrepreneur is doing his part to help the elderly after his stall was forced to shut down—NTU undergraduate Lee Ray Sheng of Raydy Beehoon.

After finally opening his stall at NTU’s own canteen, Ray Sheng was glad to see that business was taking off, with large supper crowds flocking to Raydy Beehoon with it being the only stall that opens late into the night. The stall was doing well since its birth in late February 2020, until COVID-19 restrictions were set in place.

Due to exams cancellation and lack of footfall, Raydy Beehoon’s business dropped by about 30%, and they were forced to close, worrying about their excess stock and unit rental. Still, Ray Sheng kept his head up, and they managed to clear out most of their stock on the final night of business with the support of his customers.

With all this free time on his hands, Ray Sheng realised that he could make something good come out of it, and so Raydy Beehoon started an online fundraising campaign to raise enough money to cover the cost of food ingredients, packaging and petrol costs for delivery.

Within two weeks, they had managed to raise the amount they needed, and they partnered up with The Food Bank to distribute 200 packets of bee hoon daily to the needy, six days a week.

After the recent extension of the ‘Circuit Breaker’, he has made plans to expand operations with an additional kitchen, and also serve at Willing Hearts, increasing their output to 400 packets a day. If you’ve been inspired by this young man’s desire to give, support his fundraising campaign here!
