Recently, Singapore has seen a growth in halal eateries selling steaks at affordable prices. Here, we have another contender who’s arrived into the scene; SALAI by MeatDrop has opened a stall in Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre selling gourmet steak dishes at affordable prices. The stall is also an extension of MeatDrop—a Muslim-owned provider of premium halal meat.
Not like your average Western hawker stall, SALAI by MeatDrop has exclusive access to premium meat so that means, you’ll be indulging in quality meat at a third of the price. Additionally, every piece of meat served is individually marinated, packed, and sous vide before it is either smoked or grilled. You usually expect such preparation and cooking methods from a restaurant, not so much a hawker stall.
Then again, if The Social Outcast operates a charcoal-grilled oven from a hawker stall, we’re sure SALAI by MeatDrop can go against the odds as well.
Alright, on to the food! Mains include Smoked Lamb Ribs (pictured above) starting from a mere S$12. They also have Grilled Chicken (S$10 for half, S$17 for full), Grilled Angus Minute Steak (S$15), and Grilled Wagyu Steak (S$17).
Each main comes with salad, one side and one sauce. Their choices of sides include: Smoked Charcoal Rice, Grilled Pita Bread, French Fries, and Aromatic Salad. Honestly, their range of in-house sauces blew me away. Choice of sauces include: White Salai (smokey mayo), Hickory BBQ, Garlic Chilli, and Assam Salsa. Quite the selection, huh?
Aside from the Mains, they also burgers on their menu. The Wagyu Pulled Beef Burger (pictured above) is priced at a very affordable S$11 and a Wagyu Burger will only set you back S$14. Burgers will come with a side of fries.
If the mains and burgers aren’t enticing enough, SALAI by MeatDrop also serves meat platters. For S$50, the platter fit for three to four pax consists of a Grilled Full Bird, Smoked Lamb Rips, and Grilled Angus Steak. The platter will also come with all four sides and sauces.
Hey, S$50 is pretty affordable as opposed to having one at a restaurant that’ll probably make me close to S$200 poorer. So, if you’re looking to enjoy gourmet meat dishes without breaking the bank, SALAI by MeatDrop is the place to visit.
