Samsung has just unveiled the latest updates to its premium flagship Z range of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip.
As we have come to expect from the Korean tech giant, the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 are bursting with the latest smartphone chips, best-in-class displays and, of course, all packed into more compact devices than ever before but with better screens!
The Galaxy Z Fold5 leads the charge with its mobile movie theatre meets massive game console meets multitasking workhorse concept. It retains the 6.2-inch outer screen and 7.6-inch inner screen format as the Fold4 and Fold3.
That’s an amazing feat, considering that the Fold5 is the shortest and thinnest of the lot. That translates to a smaller device with smaller bezels without sacrificing even the teeniest bit of display real estate. To top it off, the Fold5 weighs just 253g compared to the 263g of last year’s model and the 271g of the Fold3.
The cover screen resolution of the Z Fold5 is unchanged at 2316×904 HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X. Samsung has upped the peak Brightness, though, from 1,500 nits to 1,750 nits. Coupled with the 48~120Hz Refresh Rate, this is a beast for all light conditions.
Unfolded, the main screen is 2176×1812 of QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X in all its glory. That’s unchanged from the Fold4 but the difference again is peak Brightness which Samsung has escalated from last year’s 1,300 nits to 1,750 nits.
It can double as a second screen, made even more practical by Multi control that lets you use a keyboard and mouse across compatible Galaxy devices.
Samsung floored the competition with its amazing Nightography mode in the S23 series earlier this year. The cameras of the Z Fold5 aren’t 200MP giant killers of the amazing S23 Ultra with its 100x zoom and stunning moon capture abilities but they are an upgrade nonetheless.
The front camera gives you 10MP (Cover) + 4MP UDC (Main). A 50.0MP wide-angle camera, 10.0MP telephoto lens and 12.0MP ultra wide shooter bring up the rear. Get real close to your subject with Optical Zoom at 3x and 30x Space Zoom.
While the size of the screens on the Z Fold5 are identical to previous models’, the Z Flip5 really flips the switch this year.
Gone is the small cover screen, replaced by an immersive 3.4-inch Flex Window that covers almost the entire outside front.
This pocket-sized wonder puts a QWERTY keyboard on the still-folded device, as well as a host of exciting widgets and customisations.
Both the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 are powered by an industry-leading Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy sheathed inside an Armor Aluminium frame with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and IPX8 protection. The storage options for the Z Fold5 are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, all with 12GB of RAM while the Z Flip5 comes in 256GB and 512GB variants, both with 8GB of RAM.
