Affordable Japanese restaurants are often easy to come by, but when it comes to quality-yet-value-for-money eats, the hunt gets a little more challenging. Newly opened Sen-ryo—the new kid in town situated within Singapore’s busiest shopping district, Orchard Road—is looking to check that box

Decked in classic blacks and greys, the entrance of Sen-ryo boasts an intimidating, expensive vibe. But worry not; beyond its daunting appearance lies an accessible restaurant, hailed all the way from Tochigi Japan, that serves up a menu of quality yet affordable Japanese delicacies prepared using ingredients imported directly from the Land of the Rising Sun.

The best way to start your meal here at Sen-ryo is with their signature Sushi and Sashimi Sets (from S$18.80). Handcrafted with the spirit of shokunin (artisan) at heart, you can be well-assured that the plate of sushi or sashimi served in front of you will be the freshest you can get since all the seafood is imported twice weekly from the renowned Toyosu Market in Japan.

While you are indulging in appetisers, don’t miss out on the Sen-ryo Tamagoyaki With Mentaiko Sauce (S$2.80). Freshly made daily in-house and topped with the restaurant’s signature fish roe sauce, this humble delight will win your heart with its delicate fluffiness—a texture that both the young and old will surely enjoy.

Regular a la carte items aside, feel free to also indulge in their Lunch Set Menu. Priced from just S$15.80, this series of set items will leave you belly filled and satisfied since they consist of a main, rice, salad, a bowl of soup and a side dish.

With such an impressive array of Japanese fares, Sen-ryo shapes out to be a fantastic option for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. Good food together with fantastic ambience; this is surely a great date night option.
