If you’re as passionate about breakfast meals as I am, you’ve likely encountered rave reviews about The Toast.

The Toast - Store front

The Toast has been on my mind for quite some time. I stumbled upon their Google reviews where they have garnered an impressive 4.2 stars rating based on 907 reviews (at the time of writing). So, I decided to include this to my best-rated series.

The Toast- Entrance

The first outlet of The Toast is situated at Taman Mount Austin. They started their humble journey in 2007 and have now expanded to an F&B brand with 5 branches around JB, specialising in breakfast meals.

The Toast - Seatings

I opted to visit the outlet at Taman Mount Austin. When I stepped into the shop, it came as no surprise that the place was bustling with people. Not long after I settled down, queues started forming outside.

What I tried at The Toast

The Toast - Mee siam with fried chicken meat

The menu offered diverse options, from toast to local delights, kuih, snacks, Chinese stir-fried dishes, and vegetarian delights. Among the myriad of choices, I opted for Mee Siam with Fried Chicken Meat (RM10.90), drawn to its reputation as the crowd favourite.

The mee siam was served with 4-5 generous pieces of fried chicken, a well-cooked fried egg, one piece of lime, and a dollop of spicy sambal in a saucer. Without any hesitation, I dug in.

The Toast - Mee siam

The mee siam was distinct and not overly moist. It featured a delectable blend of stir-fried bee hoon and shredded carrots. I was left wanting more since every bite had the ideal balance of tangy (from the lime) and savoury flavours, leading to a harmonic symphony of rich flavour and delightful texture.

Personally, I feel that the fried chicken is the star of the dish. It was skilfully prepared, with a succulent tenderness that collapsed in your mouth. I enjoyed a burst of juicy flavour in every bite, enhanced by an aromatic blend of spices.

The Toast - Nasi lemak with fried chicken meat

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Meat (RM10.90) is another popular dish at The Toast. The dish also features a few pieces of fried chicken, a fried egg, and sambal. The only difference is the inclusion of ikan bilis and peanuts.

It goes without saying that the fried chicken was consistently delicious. While sifting through the rice with my spoon, I caught a whiff of the distinct and fluffy grains well-blended with ginger and coconut milk. The rice was perfectly infused, and the sambal added a fiery kick to it, bringing the overall flavour and creaminess to a balance.

The Toast - Margerin sugar

Their toast is also a signature, as evident from its name. I went for their Margerin Sugar (RM2.90), Egg Mayo (RM4.90) and Garlic Bread (RM3.20) among the numerous options. All of the bread was well-toasted. They were fluffy with a golden brown and crispy exterior. The Margerin Sugar gave off a lovely sweetness with buttery undertones, and the sugar atop was toasted to crispy perfection.

The Toast - Egg mayo and garlic bread

The Egg Mayo was rich and velvety. It coated my tongue with a luxurious creaminess. Every mouthful was a delightful explosion of flavour. Meanwhile, the Garlic Bread boasted a rich buttery flavour. Its garlic flavour was exquisitely blended into the fluffy bread, ensuring a delectable experience.

The Toast - Zui Kueh

The Zui Kueh (RM4.60) had a light and airy texture, complemented by the sweet-savoury preserved radish topping and accompanied by sambal. The radish leaned more towards a sweet flavour profile. I had no issues with the rice cake— it was firm and not overly moist (I prefer the cake to be less moist).

The Toast - Kopi

The aroma of freshly-brewed Kopi (RM3.70) filled the air when it arrived at my table, luring me with its robust scent. Every sip embraced me with a rich flavour that enveloped my senses, leaving behind a cosy warmth that brought me energy.

Final thoughts

The Toast - All dishes featured

In summary, The Toast did maintain their standard of food. I had an awesome dining experience there. Their dishes lived up to their impressive Google reviews. However, taste is a subjective sensation impacted by personal preferences, as everyone has different flavour inclinations.

I can see myself revisiting the restaurant with my friends and family. Nonetheless, parking can be somewhat challenging during lunchtime. Should you have free time throughout the day, I suggest visiting during off-peak hours.
