If you reside, study or work around the Subang area, you would’ve probably heard of Uncle Soon Fried Rice. I was first introduced to this stall with economic dish options by a friend , and there’s been no turning back ever since my first try.

The original home of Uncle Soon Fried Rice was in Alor Setar. It relocated to Selangor in 2007 and the owner’s daughter decided to take over the business after graduating from high school several years later. It has been expanding over the years, with university students as their target market.

Uncle Soon started as a humble stall in a coffee shop at SS15, but has now grown to a business with several branches. However, it still remains its HQ at SS15.

The menu here is simple with only 4 options to choose from, but that is more than enough to form a queue outside of the shop. The basic Egg Fried Rice with Egg (RM7.50) with spice is my usual order. It’s a simple yet satisfying dish. The portion is super generous which makes it good value for money.

It looks just like regular fried rice, but you’ll change your mind after having a try. Once the fried rice is served to your table, you can already smell the wok hei. The rice is fluffy and the egg evenly coats on every grain of rice. The little spiciness of the chilli really did pack a punch and enhance the taste of the dish. It also comes with sambal chilli  which gives it an additional kick.

I’ve been Uncle Soon’s regular for years now and I’m still amazed by this humble yet utterly delicious dish. The magic in turning leftover rice into a masterpiece never fails to amaze me.

Get ready to have your mind blown if you were to try Uncle Soon Fried Rice! Do keep an eye on their Facebook page for more information.
