Not sure if you would want the meats or the guys… why not go for both?

A collaboration between two partners, Ezekiel and Steve, they opened Chops Grill and Sides at Yishun in 2015. It is only recently that they have moved to Ang Mo Kio and celebrated their stall turning one since October 2016.

The bubbly Ezekiel shared that the idea of a western stall stems from the fact that both he and Steve go to the gym often.

After their gym session, they would scout for post-workout food, normally protein-based. Hence, they decided to sell what they enjoy eating as well.

Ezekiel also mentioned another interesting thing about their company shirt, which is stamped with the company logo, their individual names and a number code.

Their motto is that ‘People who love to eat are always the best people’ by none other than famous American chef Julia Child.

Thus, they created the Chops! A XXL platter that would brings friends together while savouring a variety of their signature dishes.

Why not a cafe or restaurant then? Ezekiel reveals the dynamics of a coffeeshop which is accessible to many and allows for a steady flow of customers.

The menu offers a plethora of dishes ranging from the mains, burgers, pastas to bar food and soup.

Each order of the mains come with two choices of cold salads such as the cherry tomatoes or hot sides such as fries.

Our group of six started off with two pasta dishes.

The Carbonara with Poached Egg ($6.90) and Chops! Signature Pink Salmon Pasta ($6.90) are priced affordably given their substantial portions.

The salmon pasta is actually tomato based with salmon chunks, bonito flakes and seaweed. Both pastas are surprisingly good, but do save stomach space for what is to come next!

The massive Chops! XXL Platter ($59.90) feeds six to eight pax.

It is served in two trays: one for meats and one for the sides.

The meat platter consists of

  1. Grilled Cajun chicken: We love the flavoursome meats and skin.
  2. Fried breaded fish: Nice breaded crust and it is a humongous piece.
  3. Grilled garlic pork collar: A bit tough which could possibly be due to the meat being too thin a piece when grilled.
  4. Panfry Norwegian Salmon: This is good too and you can request for its doneness.
  5. Australian Grain Fed Ribeye Steak: The beef is rather juicy and you can request for its doneness.
  6. Spice BBQ babyback ribs (half rack): Not too sweet and has a firm meat texture.

The meat platter also comes with five sauces: Curry mayo, Sriracha Mayo, Tartar, Homemade mushroom and black pepper. The sauces are decent especially the curry mayo which we polished clean.

The above-mentioned meats are all available as part of the Ala carte mains as well.

Well, that’s not all!

You will also get a platter of ten sides comprising of cherry tomatoes, potato and egg salad, tuna salad, Romaine lettuce, coleslaw, garlic fried rice, mash potato, aglio olio, mac and cheese and shoestring fries.

Of which, the aglio olio stood out with a stronger seasoning that will cater to diners of a heavier palate. We thought it could even be a dish by itself.

The cherry tomatoes are sweet and we found out from the owners that they have a secret recipe for it!

Where else can you get western food of such quality and sincerity behind all the preparation in a coffeeshop? At Chops Grill and Sides, it is surely a place where friends meet together for a meaty meal!

Expected Damage: $59.90 for 6 to 8 pax
