When people ask what is my favourite beer, I only have one answer: Sapporo Premium Beer.

What you should know about my favourite beer is that it is Japan’s oldest beer brand since 1876. Its first brewmaster is Seibei Nakagawa, who is also the first in Japan to be trained in Germany and tasked to oversee the construction of the brewery in Sapporo — the rest is history.

Today, Sapporo Premium Beer is one of the best selling Japanese beers in Singapore. Realising that no one in the company has ever written about their love for it, I jumped in straight for the opportunity to show you why we’re team #SapporoSG #SapporoPremiumBeer, and maybe make you a beerliever by the end of this article?

Sapporo Premium Beer Has A Smooth Aftertaste

I like my beer hoppy, crisp and smooth. After trying various brands, I always find myself going back to Sapporo Premium Beer — it ticks all the boxes, it is smooth, and does best in quenching my thirst!

Best of all, I enjoy the lingering well-balanced taste on the palate, making it easy to gulp down.

We know “a good head is a good thing” when it comes to beer and the froth that Sapporo Premium Beer produce is thick and foamy, consisting of the aromas from the beer.

It also pairs really well with almost any meal because of its smooth and refreshing profile. Next time you’re dining out or throwing a party, get Sapporo Premium Beer to go with your yakitori, grilled chicken, or finger food and see how it acts as a palate cleanser.

It Is The Oldest Beer Brand In Japan

Being the oldest beer brand in Japan comes with the reputation of being one of the best.

How old is the Sapporo beer brand exactly? Established brewery in 1876, (hurry, quick math), it has a rich history of more than 140 years and counting!

Here’s a fun fact: Did you know that 1876 was the year when sardines were first canned? That was also the year when Alexander G. Bell got his patent for the telephone — that’s how old Sapporo Beer is.

Since then, Sapporo has continued to brew beer with pure passion, pioneering spirit and dedication.

To provide the highest quality of beer, every grain of malt and hop are chosen carefully through stringent quality checks. Hence, the dedication to high-quality beer is Sapporo Premium Beer’s mission and purpose.

In the long history of Sapporo, there were a few design changes to the beer can with the consumers in mind.

Take for example the above Sapporo Premium Beer can that debuted in Japan around 1984, it is called Kappu Nama. Kappu in Japanese means “cup” and nama means “draft”.

The shape of the can is inspired by tumbler glass, providing a comfortable grip. It once had a removable cover to allow people to drink beer like it was poured fresh from the tap. While the shape and size remained, the removable cover has since been changed to a tab for convenience.

Japan’s First German-Trained Brewmaster

Seibei Nakagawa left Japan at the age of 17 to quench his thirst for adventure, and at that time, the Japanese government forbade its citizens from travelling and there was a strict isolationist policy.

But Nakagawa’s travel eventually led him to Germany where he learned the craft of brewing, a craft he brought back home in 1876 as Sapporo’s first brewmaster.

Sapporo Beer made its way to America in 1964 and for more than 30 years, it is the best-selling Asian beer in America. That says a lot.

Now that you’re in the know of the rich history of Sapporo Premium Beer, it’s time to grab a can and impress the drinking buddies with your newly acquired knowledge.

Head on down to any major supermarket, convenience store, mini-marts, bars, pubs and restaurants to enjoy your Sapporo Premium Beer.
