Just behind Bugis Street lies Albert Centre Market & Food Centre, a wet market and popular dining destination at 270 Queen Street. For nearby residents and those working in the vicinity, do patronise your favourite food stall/s and stock up on your marketing ingredients as much as you can.

Why? Because in just about 2 weeks, the entire premises will be closing for renovation works, which will span 88 days starting 5 Feb 2025. It also happens to be the 8th day of the Lunar New Year.

Albert Centre Market & Food Centre, which opened in 1980, has numerous complaints including poor ventilation and dark surroundings on the inside. Improvements include the addition of giant fans, as well as new tables and stools.

Hopefully, patrons will get a brighter, airier, and more spacious food centre to enjoy their meals in comfort (no removal of chairs hopefully… ahem!) when it reopens on 5 May 2025.

Mr Tommy Pang, the 2nd-gen owner of Bai Nian Yong Tau Foo says, “Out of our 8 outlets around Singapore, our pioneer stall over there is the most memorable as it was started by my parents back in 2012.”

Tommy’s other brand, Shi Nian, which offers pig leg rice and has 11 branches, is also located within Albert Centre Market & Food Centre. For now, there’s no news whether the rent for both stalls will increase after the renovation.

“We’ll see when the time comes, I guess,” he added.

New kid on the block, Manna, which opened just last October and specialises in healthy rice bowls, has taken a slightly different path. Owner Derrick has shared that there’s a possibility that he’ll relocate his stall somewhere else around February or March.

He said “We got the highest bid, but nothing is confirmed just yet. We’ll have updates on our Instagram page real soon.”

I sincerely wish that during these 3 months, the surrounding eateries near the hawker centre will get a boost in sales and hopefully improve their business.
