It’s hard not to feel left out watching our friends eating and describing the numbing sensation that is Mala. Which is why Makan Malah at Our Tampines Hub help us alleviate that FOMO feeling. With their new outlet that opened on 14 Oct 2026, diners who have never tried mala xiang guo get to have a taste without any pork or lard.

Some of you might be familiar with their founding brand, A Hot Hideout. A highly-rated chain known for its collagen-rich soup base that satisfies the soul. Makan Malah’s first outlet was located at NUS UTown, featuring the same level of satisfaction. Also, Makan Malah has announced on their Instagram that they’re in the process of receiving their Halal certification. Do check now and then to see if they receive it.

If you have ordered mala before, you’ll know it is very similar to ordering yong tau foo. Pick out the ingredients of your choosing from their freezer; I love enoki mushrooms with a burning passion, and just pass it to the staff at the front. They will then have it weighed. Based on the NUS outlet, the ingredients cost S$2.98 per 100g. Lastly, you can choose between a stir-fry and a collagen soup base.

Also, they have add-ons, including coriander, peanuts and a peanut sesame sauce. For those, I recommend pairing it with the collagen soup for a more even spread of flavour. Makan Malah also serves beef, something A Hot Hideout does not. They also seem to specialise in more fried items like fried lotus root and potato chips. Other than that, you can expect a traditional mala experience.

The restaurant itself is located nearby Tampines MRT with a bus stop, Our Tampines Hub, close by. It is an 8-minute walk from the MRT. Our Tampines Hub is known for a variety of cuisines from all over the world, so what’s 1 more? Give Makan Malah a try, whether you want to experience it for the first time or are just looking for a nice lunch spot.
