Popular grilled seafood hawker stall MeiGui BBQ at 1015 Geylang East Ave 3 has announced it is closing its doors on 30 Oct 2026 after 3 years of serving up its acclaimed Sambal Stingray, which starts from just S$11 a portion. The news comes following the shuttering of over 2,000 F&B businesses in Singapore in 2026, with many citing rising rental costs and labour shortages.

Originally established in 1982 as a roadside street stall in Johor Bahru, the family-run business expanded to Singapore in late 2023 with the opening of their Geylang East outlet in Guan Guan Kopitiam, located just a 5 minute walk from Paya Lebar MRT. Beloved for their fiery sambal and array of fresh seafood, MeiGui is also praised by netizens for the friendliness of its staff, with many planning to patronise this stall one last time before its final day.

Besides their famous Sambal Stingray, other seafood offerings include clams, wild white prawns and sotong. Other frequently ordered dishes are local favourites such as petai, kang kong and otah. Fish lovers are in luck as well — they dish up pomfret, seabass and snapper — all customisable to your taste. On top of their signature sambal sauce, they offer non-spicy dining options of seafood grilled with butter or simply boiled, for those who prefer a milder taste profile.
We have 5 more weeks to enjoy fresh seafood for under S$25 and great service from MeiGui BBQ before they close their doors. Don’t miss the chance to treat yourself to a final seafood fix!
