Apam balik filled with Biscoff, Milo Dinosaur or even pistachio kunafa? Singapore’s Munchi Pancakes is giving the familiar snack a rather interesting spin, and it’s opening first outlet in Malaysia this October. The halal-certified brand will make its way to AEON Mall Tebrau City, JB, bringing over 20 flavours to Malaysia after growing to more than 42 outlets across Singapore.

The story began in 2016, when childhood friends Calvyn and Au decided to turn their shared love for Min Jiang Kueh, also known as apam balik, into a business. Starting with a hawker stall in Yishun, the pair began experimenting with different fillings and pancake skins, giving the traditional snack a fresh spin.

Of course, the classics haven’t gone anywhere. Peanut, Coconut, Red Bean, Kaya and Black Sesame are still on the menu, alongside sweeter picks such as Belgian Chocolate, Milo Dinosaur, Biscoff and Oreo Cheese. For tea lovers, there’s also Matcha, Thai Milk Tea and Earl Grey to try.
Feeling a little more adventurous? Pistachio Kunafa, Kopi Gao and Pineapple Cheese offer unexpected twists on the usual fillings. Even the pancake skins get a change-up, making this more than just your standard apam balik run.

If you prefer your snacks in smaller portions, Mini Munchi comes in boxes of 6, perfect for sharing or sampling a few flavours. Traditional Min Jiang Kueh is also available for those who prefer to keep things classic.
They offer vegan options, too. With old-school favourites sitting alongside more unconventional combinations, Munchi Pancakes’ JB debut gives apam balik fans in Malaysia plenty to explore. The big question is, what flavours are you looking forward to the most?
