Remember the iconic Red House in JB that used to house Marrybrown? It has new tenants, and this time, you can expect traditional biscuits and old-school kopi instead of fast food. Guan Heong 1918 and Three Sisters Nanyang Cafe have moved into the heritage landmark on Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, giving the familiar red building a fresh chapter in its long history.

Dating back to the 19th century, the Red House sits at the junction of Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and Jalan Pahang, where it has long been a familiar fixture of JB’s old town. Its latest tenants bring two distinctly nostalgic food experiences under one roof, making the building worth another look the next time you’re exploring the area.

Taking over the ground floor is Guan Heong 1918, an Ipoh-born biscuit and pastry brand with a history dating back to 1918. The brand officially opened its Johor Bahru branch on 11 Oct 2026, bringing its traditional handmade treats to the city.

Its signature range includes Meat Floss With Lotus Paste Biscuit, which combines savoury meat floss with sweet lotus paste, and Meat Floss With Salted Egg Biscuit for a richer, more savoury bite. Dried Meat With Lotus Paste Biscuit is another option for those who enjoy a sweet-and-savoury combination.

Beyond these signature pastries, you can browse an assortment of treats, including Signature Dragon Cookies, Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes, Almond Crisps, Love Letter Cookies and Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies. They also make convenient edible souvenirs to bring home after a JB food trip.

Once you’ve picked up a box of biscuits downstairs, head up to the second floor for a different kind of old-school indulgence. Three Sisters Nanyang Cafe, also known as 3 Sisters Cafe, serves traditional local coffee, breakfast favourites, and familiar comfort food in a Nanyang-style setting.
