If you’re a Singaporean aged 18 or above, you probably have S$100 worth of SG Culture Pass credits. Are you wondering how to spend them? The theatre, museums and workshops are all great options but we think one option stands out: the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC).

Breaking away from the simple ‘educational’ format, SDC has put together a thriller they call Mission SG: Operation Broken Oath, an interactive mystery escape quest weaved into Singapore’s defence story. While you’ll definitely learn along the way, this is a game first and foremost, and a challenging one at that.

If you know what the SG Culture Pass Credits are, you can skip on to the next section. For everyone else, here is a quick rundown.

The SG Culture Pass Credits programme is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). It gives all Singaporeans aged 18 and above S$100 worth of credits to use on experiences that encourage deeper engagement with Singapore’s arts, heritage and culture.

They can be used for performances, exhibitions, learning tours and workshops.

What is Mission SG?

At its core, Mission SG: Operation Broken Oath is an interactive mystery escape quest where you become an agent of Singapore’s National Intelligence Unit. The premise is that intercepted messages point to a mole within the agency and your team is tasked with uncovering their identity before it’s too late.

An AI chatbot named Void Deck Cat guides you as you navigate through exhibits, decode messages and follow clues to uncover the mole’s plan.

It’s unlike any traditional museum experience, combining puzzle-solving, strategic thinking and teamwork in an immersive environment. Don’t mistake exhibits for passive display; they are all clues and tools to help you succeed in your mission.

SDC’s hands-on approach makes the story of Singapore memorable, engaging and relatable.

Is Mission SG for you?

A lot of work has gone into giving Mission SG a very wide appeal. From kids as young as 7 to youths and teens to adults, the game is meant to be experienced and enjoyed in a way that will make you rethink museums.

Mission SG compels participants to engage in strategic thinking, observation and collaboration, skills that apply in everyday life just as they do in the simulated espionage scenario.

By turning historical displays into interactive puzzles, SDC makes Singapore’s national security narratives relatable. The storylines explore key moments in the nation’s defence journey, giving participants a sense of national pride and appreciation for the nation.

Using Culture Pass Credits

Mission SG: Operation Broken Oath costs S$25 which, based on the activities included, is already incredible value. However, it’s completely free because the entire cost can be covered using your SG Culture Pass Credits.

It’s perfect for families or groups of friends, as the experience is designed for team play. The credits allow you to make the most of your credits while enjoying an experience that is equal parts entertainment and education.

Whether you’re a parent looking for good, wholesome activities or a teen who wants to play laser tag and watch movies, a day at the SDC gives you all that without having to spend a dollar. There aren’t many places where you get to do that.

Pass confirmed, Mission on
