“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wittily announced in a joint Instagram post on 26 Aug, confirming their engagement with a gorgeous five-photo carousel.
Shot in a garden filled with pink and white blooms, the post captures the exact moment the Kansas City Chiefs tight end got down on one knee in front of the pop superstar, plus a close-up of the dazzling ring on her left hand. Fittingly, a snippet of Taylor’s track “So High School” — rumoured to be about Travis — plays in its background.

The announcement promptly broke the internet, racking up over 12 million likes within the first hour, alongside congratulations from fans and fellow celebs — a seismic show of love for the couple now 2 years strong.
From how and where Travis popped the question to the story behind Taylor’s antique-inspired ring, here’s everything we know about the power couple’s engagement.
For a fortnight there, they were forever

Turns out the 26 Aug announcement wasn’t the actual moment the magic happened. Speaking to ABC News 5 Cleveland, Travis’s dad Ed Kelce revealed that he’d already proposed about 2 weeks earlier at his home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
While Travis initially considered holding off for something “grand”, both Taylor’s dad Scott Swift, and Ed nudged him to keep it simple.
And so, Travis set the scene himself, fashioning a floral garden around a gazebo in his backyard. On the evening of the proposal, he invited Taylor out for a glass of wine before dinner, led her into the garden and dropped to one knee. “They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed shared.
I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with…
Okay, not really a “but” here — Taylor said yes to a seriously stunning sparkler.

The ring in question is an antique-inspired old mine brilliant cut diamond ring set on an 18k yellow gold band, co-designed by Travis himself and Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry.
While they’ve yet to reveal all the specs, jewellery experts estimate the diamond at 7 to 9 carats, though some say it could be as high as 20. Its bezel-set cushion cut, flanked by half-moon and small round side stones, gives it a refined vintage flair. Its price is pegged to be anywhere from $250K – $1.5M, with some speculating up to $5M,thanks to the rare hand-cut stone.
The piece is, as Marrow Fine founder Jillian Sassone put perfectly: “effortless, classic and very Swift,” — a one-of-a-kind diamond that matches their fairytale-level romance.
It’s a love story, baby, she said ‘yes’
For Swifties (like yours truly), the engagement lands on top of a banner few years for Taylor: with her record-breaking Eras Tour, an 11th and soon-to-come 12th studio album, reclaiming her masters and now, a romance that fits her poems like a perfect rhyme.

It comes just 2 weeks after Taylor’s candid appearance on the New Heights podcast, where she chatted with the Kelce brothers about her reclaimed masters and some playful personal tidbits, from her sourdough obsession to the couple’s shared love of otters. In a rare glimpse into her private life, she poetically revealed that This Love is “sort of what [she’d] been writing songs about wanting to happen to [her] since [she] was a teenager.”
Then there’s the story of how it all began: Travis’s failed attempt to “shoot his shot” during the Kansas City stop of her Eras Tour in Jul 2023, where he tried to hand her a friendship bracelet bearing his number. And the rest is history.
While the happy couple has yet to confirm a date for the wedding, we still have much to look forward to. Say hello to a new era as Taylor’s highly anticipated 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl is slated to drop on 3 Oct — and we will be tuning in.
