The Golden Duck Co launched in 2015 and is a homegrown pioneer of salted egg yolk gourmet snacks, first unveiling the Gourmet Salted Egg Yolk Potato Crisps and Gourmet Salted Egg Fish Skin Crunchy Crisps.
They have since gained widespread popularity regionally and have recently launched two new flavours inspired by Singapore’s iconic crab dishes – Singapore Chilli Crab Seaweed Tempura (S$7/110g pack) and Singapore Salted Egg Crab Seaweed Tempura (S$7/110g pack).
The seaweed squares are roasted, coated with house-made tempura batter, deep-fried and then topped with REAL crab meat. Snacking on them is almost like digging into your favourite local crab dish without the mess.
I am over the salted egg flavour craze, which is why I preferred the Chilli Crab Seaweed Tempura. Crispy and salty, the seaweed tempura made a really satisfying snack, especially with its slightly tangy chilli flavour.
In contrast to the chilli crab, the Salted Egg Crab Seaweed Tempura was mild with a hint of sweetness. The chips were coated in salted egg yolk, curry leaves and dried chilli, and the grainy salted egg coating left a lingering taste in my mouth.
