21 CUBE Artisan Ice Cream has recently opened its second outlet in Ang Mo Kio, a new addition to the already vibrant food scene in the neighbourhood.

Located just behind the ever lively S-11 coffeeshop, the new ice cream joint is a great place to grab some sinfully good desserts after a meal.

Unlike the first outlet at SCAPE, this one at Ang Mo Kio has a small indoor and al-fresco sitting area for patrons to hang out and chill.

However, more than half the shop is occupied by its open-concept kitchen, leaving a small space for those who wishes to enjoy their ice cream in the air condition area. But, hey! since it’s ice cream that you’re having, you probably wouldn’t feel as hot when sitting outdoors.

The interior is kept clean and minimal — the white walls, bright lights and wooden furniture will come in handy as backdrop and props to style your Instagram post of the ice cream.

The 23-year-old owners of 21 CUBE Artisan Ice Cream told us that they have been kept busy experimenting and creating new flavours that are in the works.

For now, S’moreos ($5.90) and Honey Goldilocks ($6.40) are the only two ice cream cone flavours in the cafes, along with an assortment of ice cream rolls.

Here’s how these fluffy, marshmallow coated S’moreos are made.

The cone is laced with spoonfuls of marshmallow until the entire opening is covered.

It is then flame-torched to make the marshmallow caramelized and gooey to accompany the ice cream. While we’re only at the first step of making the S’moreos, the shop is already filled with the sweet aroma of charred marshmallow.

Filled with a generous amount of vanilla ice cream, the cone soon turned monstrous in stature.

The ice cream is coated in Oreo cookie crumbs, and embedded with pieces of Oreo cookies. It is then topped with a dollop of marshmallow, and drizzled in just the right amount of chocolate syrup.

The S’moreos was huge and chunky, with bits of marshmallow and ice cream falling over. Nonetheless, a spectacular sight to behold! Usually served with a spoon and a plate with a hole in the middle that holds the ice cream, you don’t have to worry about making a messy or having your hands dirty.

The soft marshmallow, together with the ice cream, gave an airy texture on the whole. The crunchy bits of Oreo cookies made every mouthful chocolatey and scrumptious. It is little wonder why this has been a buzz lately at the heartland for this spectacular ice cream.

If your sweet tooth is aching for more, 21 CUBE Artisan Ice Cream serves up to eight different and interesting ice cream rolls flavours, and 12 toppings to go with it. We went with the Yakult ($5.40) and strawberry ($0.40).

Popular in Thailand, ice cream rolls, otherwise known as stir-fried ice cream, is really just pouring the ice cream mixture on a freezing cold slab and mixing and chopping it up till it freezes over.

It is then thinly flatten, rolled with a metal spatula and served in an ice cream cup, which consist of about five and a half rolls.

Don’t they remind you of a bouquet of roses? I was expecting the yakult ice cream to be sorbet-like, but it was interestingly creamy and milky.

I would recommend going for the ice cream rolls if you want something light and sweet, but you should totally order the S’moreos if your appetite for desserts is huge (and if you want some great instagram photos)

Expected Damage: $6 per pax
