Quick Summary

327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak at Hougang Avenue 5 is a 28-year-old stall known for its fried bee hoon, nasi lemak and early opening hours from 4am on weekdays and 3.30am on weekends. The bee hoon and chicken wings are the stronger picks, while the kway teow-mee is more generic. It is best suited to early risers and those living nearby rather than diners travelling across Singapore.

There are countless economic bee hoon stalls across Singapore especially around the heartlands, with almost every kopitiam and food centre having at least one. So, why does 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak at 327 Hougang Avenue 5 stand out from the crowd with its high rating?

It possesses a Google rating of 4.3 stars out of 5 with a total of 224 reviews (at time of writing). I guess heading down to try it for myself is the best way to find out.

Whilst digging deeper into this stall online, I discovered that they had even snagged Class 95’s Foodie’s Choice award for best economic bee hoon back in 2024 — that must mean something, right? Naturally, my expectations were higher but that could also mean a greater possibility of disappointment if the food didn’t live up to them.

For the early birds, you’ll be glad to know that 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak already starts operating at 4am on weekdays (closed on Wednesday) and 3.30am on weekends.

327 bee hoon - dishes on display

I arrived a little later than 9am and phew, there were just a couple of customers in line — a stark contrast to the long snaking queue pictures that I’d seen on Google Reviews. Don’t expect anything bougie to be served at this 28-year-old establishment. Instead, classics such as chicken wings, tau kwa, fried egg, and cabbage are offered.

What to order at 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak

Based on the bulk of the reviews, the netizens’ favourites were mostly the fried bee hoon and chicken wings. We started off with, you guessed it, the Bee Hoon, along with 2 Chicken Wings, a Fried Egg, and Sauteed Cabbage, costing a total of S$7.40.

The bee hoon that I’ve eaten at other places usually comes with tau geh or at least julienned carrots, so you can imagine my surprise when I realised that it was straight-up ‘kosong’ (empty). However, despite the scarcity of accompanying ingredients, the bee hoon was cooked to perfection. It was moist, well seasoned, and wasn’t dry nor overly oily. Each fine strand remained distinct instead of clumping together — I could now see why it’s so popular.

The sambal leaned towards a sweet flavour rather than savoury. Spice-wise, it was mild but harmonised well with the bee hoon.

The batter on the chicken wings was minimal, allowing me to savour more of the chicken rather than just tasting floury batter and nothing else. What’s more, the meat was scrumptious and juicy, just like the homemade version one of my aunties makes during Chinese New Year.

327 bee hoon - egg & cabbage

The fried egg was just how I expected it to be — crisp around the edges, medium-well to well-done yolk, and soft whites. My dining partner has weak teeth and will usually avoid consuming the sauteed cabbage. However, the version here felt like it had been braised for a long period, boasting a soft texture that she enjoyed.

327 bee hoon - kway teow mee

Since the stall offers other noodle options, I decided to try the Kway TeowMee, paired with Luncheon Meat, Fried Fish Fillet, Fried Egg, and Tau Kwa for S$6.

327 bee hoon - kway teow mee ratio

The noodle ratio was unbalanced, with the amount of yellow mee dominating the kway teow. If someone were to ask me how it was, I would’ve said that it tasted pretty generic — nothing stood out to make it memorable. The bee hoon earlier was better, in my opinion.

327 bee hoon - bee hoon ingredients

The fried fish fillet pieces probably taste just like any of their other frozen siblings, but the stall managed to fry it until they were very crispy without being oily. The luncheon meat was enveloped in a thin layer of batter and, by some stroke of sorcery, somehow tasted even better this way. I also loved how soft the pieces of tau kwa were despite their huge size.

Who 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak is best for

It’s great for early risers who want to fuel up on plates of fried bee hoon or nasi lemak with various ingredients at 4am onwards before heading to work.

How to get there?

The nearest MRT station is Hougang (NE14) which is about an 8 to 10 minute walk away. However, taking a bus to either Opp The Midtown and Blk 327 is a better option.

Do we recommend 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak?

327 bee hoon - overview

If you’re someone who lives nearby or happens to be around the area, then yes, 327 Fried Bee Hoon Nasi Lemak is worth a try. However, if you live at the other end of Singapore, it probably isn’t worth the long journey — it’s nice but not mind-blowing. In regards to its 4.3-star rating, I personally would bring it down slightly and rate it a solid 4. Try it for yourself and let me know your thoughts.
