This weekend isn’t going to be your average clubbing experience. The Ultra Music Festival has finally reached our shores in all its Ultra Singapore glory and is taking over Bayfront Avenue from the 10th – 11th of September.

The award-winning electronic dance music (EDM) festival hails from Miami where it’s been held annually since 1999, and promises to deliver on a similar scale here. It’s for that very reason that ravers around the region are rejoicing and the line up certainly does not disappoint.

A two-day full scale festival, three main stages and the likes of Kygo, DJ Snake, deadmau5, Axwell & Ingrosso and Afrojack all in Singapore at the same time? Somebody pinch me. I haven’t even mentioned the other 35 or so acts sharing in what I would definitely consider as a milestone for the EDM festival scene here (or lack thereof).

For a country whose many mainstream clubs thrive on commercial EDM, the only festival we have that comes close to celebrating this umbrella of genres is our annual ZoukOut beach fest. Not that I’m not a fan of waking up with sand in all the wrong places, but last year’s Road To Ultra Singapore 2015 was a step in the right direction.

The turnout was clearly an indication of a growing EDM fan base here and such festivals serve as a platform to unite an eclectic mix of people searching to dance to their hearts’ content.

My friends and I are certainly guilty of flocking abroad once in awhile just for an EDM festival fix and our bucket list continues: Electric Daisy (US), Stereosonic (Australia), Sunburn (Goa), Sonar (Barcelona)… and the mother of all EDM Festivals, Tomorrowland (Belgium).

But I digress. Ultra Singapore 2016 has made this little red dot that bit larger on the EDM map and I can only hope this is a sign of more to come. If Miami to Marina Bay can happen, perhaps Belgium to Bedok isn’t so far off.

For those brave enough to Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat. in the sun this weekend, I’ll be right there with you. Ultra Park opens at 12pm and the festival goes on till 10.30pm each day so be sure to stay hydrated and fed!

Tickets are still available here and are priced at $115 USD (1 Day Ticket) and $190 USD (2 Day Ticket) for General Admission.
