I’ve always assumed there weren’t many decent dim sum spots in the CBD — until I was proven wrong when I visited Loong Dim Sum at 10 North Canal Road, which had recently celebrated its first anniversary.

This restaurant spans three levels of dining spaces with a cosy, modern feel. Swing by the main dining area, where the warm and relaxed ambience sets the mood. The top floor is bathed in natural light, courtesy of full-height windows that frame the outside world like a painting.

Adopting traditional recipes with the finest ingredients, the award-winning chef, who is a protege of a Michelin-starred master, leads the kitchen team in handcrafting a wide array of authentic creations. We had a sneak peek at how their signature juicy bao is crafted.
I watched in awe as the chefs cut, rolled and filled the dough before sealing each bao with intricate folds in lightning-quick precision.

Explore the menu at Loong Dim Sum, and you’ll discover a great lineup of traditional and new-age creations that are delicate yet impactful. You can also enjoy an array of zi char-style dishes, sharing platters, and desserts.
This coming July, the establishment will be spreading its wings with the opening of another branch in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Before we dive into the food, here’s an exclusive special for Sethlui.com readers. From now till 31 Aug 2026, simply flash this article to any of the staff to score a FREE dim sum (steam or fried).
Do note that this promotion is only valid for dine-in, limited to 1 redemption per table, and is not valid with other promos.
What to order at Loong Dim Sum

I started with what I thought were yam dumplings, only to realise they were Chilli Crab Yam Dumplings (S$9.90 for 3 pcs) in disguise — sneaky little buggers that had me fooled!

The trio of golden-brown dumplings were encased in a crispy, honeycomb-like crust. The magic began with the first bite, as a mini pool of subtly fiery, tangy and savoury chilli crab sauce burst forth, mingling with fluffy yam and lightly-crunchy vegetables. In my opinion, this is the perfect upgrade to the classic.

The next dish was encapsulated in a gorgeous deep-red skin — Loong’s Scarlet Roll (S$15.90). We delicately slathered the soy-based dressing and devoured every bite. The red rice skin was smooth and soft, giving way to a shatteringly crispy tiger prawn. The savoury sauce added the perfect amount of oomph — I couldn’t stop myself at just one!

I then moved on to the Chicken Char Siew Bao (S$8.90 for 3 pcs). Presented in an open-faced Hong Kong-style, the bao was fluffy like a cloud, pairing beautifully with the sweet-savoury BBQ chicken filling that closely resembled the flavours of a traditional char siew bao.

It’s been some time since I last indulged in durian, so I could hardly contain my excitement when the Steamed Musang King Durian Layer Cake (S$16.90) arrived at our table.

The cake was warm, light and spongy, which made an excellent blank canvas for the robust, creamy durian filling.
Do you love the unctuousness of wagyu? Loong Dim Sum has recently introduced Loong’s Wagyu Series, utilising the prized beef in 5 different creations like the Luxurious Wagyu XO Sauce Fried Rice (S$18.90), Refined Wagyu Patty in a Chinese-Style Bun (S$13.90), and more.

We gave the Exquisite Wagyu Barbecue Skewers (S$18.90) a go. The nicely-charred wagyu beef cubes, paired with pieces of capsicum and cherry tomatoes, were coated with a light layer of spice powder that was red and looked intimidating.

Fortunately, the red spice powder was merely an aromatic, harmless soul. It enhanced the already succulent, smoky beef cubes, which instantly melted in my mouth. My goodness! Each skewer was so divine that I found myself reluctant to share it with my dining partners.

Looking for a value-for-money deal? Then get the 4-course Curated Course Menu (S$39.90) which lets you enjoy a little of everything. Think of it as a dim sum degustation menu! It may only be 4 courses, but there are a total of 10 items for you to try.

The first course comprises 3 small bites — Har Gow, Siew Mai, and Truffle Crystal Mushroom Dumpling — presented in a dainty, cool arrangement. I’m usually not crazy about truffle, but the Truffle Crystal Mushroom Dumpling might have just changed my mind. It struck a perfect balance of earthy truffle, with the mushrooms releasing a mini creamy-soup-like burst, enhanced by tiny bits of celery and carrot for a crunchy surprise.

You’ll then be presented with another trio of offerings — Lobster Broth Pumpkin Dumpling, Pan-Fried XO Siew Mai, and Mint-Sauce Crispy Tiger Prawn Rolls.

A mini heart-shaped dispenser containing lobster essence was poked through the upper half of the pumpkin dumpling. All we had to do was squeeze out the contents and enjoy its glory.

We earlier witnessed how Loong’s Signature Juicy Bao was made and it was finally time to try it! We poked a little straw to slurp up the savoury soup inside before relishing the fluffy meat filling and delicate skin.

The menu concludes with a trinity of sweet treats — Loong’s Salted Egg Bao, Homemade Egg Tart with Bird Nest, and the Dessert of the Day — Mango Sago.

Do we recommend Loong Dim Sum?

Without a doubt. This is one of the best dim sum spots I’ve ever tried. They also have an array of pretty interesting beverages like butter beer and artisanal tea served with a test tube infuser for you to sip on. What’s more, they’re also Muslim friendly.
