Designed to feel like a minimalist space in the sky, KOMYUNITI bar in YOTEL certainly impresses with its first-class travel conceptualised outlook at Orchard Road.

The bar is headed by its F&B Manager, As’ad Isnin, is also a multiple award-winning mixologist. Drawing inspiration from the fun and quirkiness of modern Japanese philosophies, the flourishing creative space allows for a unique and daring lineup of cocktails.

Phase two of As’ad’s expertly crafted drink menu features a refreshed take on flavours from all over the world citing Mexico, Japan and the beaches of Portugal as global influences.

The Lost Not Found (S$18++) cocktail is a delightful drink that features in-house fermented strawberries with prosecco and herbs. Sweet and extremely tart at the same time, this cocktail suits preferences for a drink that doesn’t feature much of that heaty alcoholic quality.

White Wash Tsunami (S$18++) is a creation that arose out of pure fun. KOMYUNITI posted a poll on social media to ‘Challenge YO Bartender’ in a bid to test the abilities of As’ad’s cocktail-making skills with an unexpected ingredient. The result: smoked salmon.

The smoked salmon is cooked in a broth and then converted into a foam with an espuma gun. It is then carefully layered over a mix of ghee vodka, lychee, curacao, and clarified lemon juice. The smoked salmon foam was extremely off-putting on its own but when mixed together, it started to make sense.

The salty-umami quality of the salmon does indeed go well with the sweet, fruity elements in the drink. The only drawback is that it still smelled like fish, though.

The Comic Coffee (S$18++) is an espresso-based cocktail that features a surprise soya bean curd portion at the bottom. The coffee flavours are so especially intense and rich in this one. This is a fully enjoyable dessert cocktail that’s specially crafted for Singaporean coffee lovers in mind.

The whole experience confirms an outstanding night. As’ad is a great conversationalist that makes you feel comfortable in the space. The cocktails are expertly crafted with obvious skill and purposeful thought — born out of a passion for wanting to create art. We’re just glad to be able to watch a creative be in his element.
