Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here?

I’m sure we’re all familiar with the iconic Kopitiam Uncle character—he’s that amicable character gracing the front of your blue Kopitiam card. Dressed in the stereotypical singlet-and-shorts with slippers outfit, and holding our favourite breakfast set of kaya toast, half-boiled eggs, and kopi, he’s a familiar sight.

Thanks to a Reddit thread, I discovered a more…appealing version of this Kopitiam Uncle, from local Singaporean artist @toastwire.

Meet Buff Kopitiam “Uncle”.

Clearly, kaya toast, half-boiled eggs, and kopi is the breakfast of champions.

And if you’re wondering, ‘What about our other iconic characters?’, @toastwire (or Toast Comics on Facebook) has you covered.

Speaking of uniquely Singaporean breakfasts, we’d be remiss not to mention Ya Kun Kaya Toast.

And yes, Toast Comics has also come up with a younger, more well-built version of the Ya Kun Kaya uncle.

For those who enjoy tea instead of coffee, teh tarik is one of those drinks you must try. Preparing teh tarik is no walk in the park, considering that you’d have to “pull” the drink multiple times.

Toast Comics introduces us to Mr Teh Tarik, revamped. All those hours of pouring and re-pouring teh tarik must have paid off—no need to hit the gym.

Fancy some juicy steak? Buff Jack’s Place Chef is here, with his familiar white chef’s hat, red neckerchief, and green checkered apron.

(Sir, I’m sure this is a health code violation.)

Toast Comics has more “food hunks” on his Facebook page and Etsy online store—you can even get a poster with all of them so that you can be both hungry and thirsty when you look at the poster.

With just the right bit of tongue-in-cheek humour, I have to say these ‘new and improved’ versions of our familiar food personalities definitely got a light chuckle from me.

Now, who’s up for some kopi and kaya toast?

Most days, she can be found cosying up to community cats and bribing them with treats. On rainy days you can find her curled up with a book in hand, catching up on Netflix or finding inspiration for her next poem.
