A pioneer in Singapore’s hawker scene, Uncle Lim Hai Chay (林海星) has decided to come out of retirement and relaunch Rong Cheng Rou Gu Cha with a hawker stall at Blk 505 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8. With this relaunch, the outlet at Midview City will no longer be under Rong Cheng’s management.

Despite enjoying five years in retirement, Uncle Lim hopes to introduce the younger generation to Rong Cheng Rou Gu Cha‘s signature clear peppery broth and to offer Singaporeans a chance to enjoy his array of delicious comfort food again. He will also be guiding an apprentice in the art of making bak kut teh the Rong Cheng way, with the same recipes and techniques that have been refined over 46 years.

A true innovator, Uncle Lim is the first to introduce loin ribs (dragon ribs) to a hearty bowl of Bak Kut Teh (S$6.50), which are larger and offer a different texture. Customers can also enjoy mains such as the Dragon Rib Soup (S$9)Braised Pig Trotters (S$6.50) and Pig Stomach Soup (S$5.50). Additionally, sides like Mui ChoyPeanuts, and Tau Kee will be available at S$2 each, including You Tiao at S$1.50.

Uncle Lim looks forward to seeing old regulars at the relaunch and hopes to allow the new generation to have a taste at his monumental bowl of bak kut teh to experience a taste of the past for themselves. Do take note that the stall only accepts cash, and will be on various delivery platforms at a later date.
