For those who can’t get enough of crustaceans of any form, why not try Charcoal Claypot Crab nestled within Mapletree Ubi Industrial Estate along Ubi Road 1? Established by the same team behind the popular Woodlands Claypot Prawn, which has a few branches around Singapore, this latest concept pays homage to crabs.

The Claypot Crab Broth (S$32.80) is good enough for 2 to 3 pax, and you’ll have an array of about 48 ingredients (S$0.80 – S$15.80) to choose from to supplement your hotpot.

The creamy, milky broth is boiled with an entire chopped crab weighing about 500g and served in a claypot, which is then placed atop a bed of glowing red coals.

Crab Claypot - sauces upclose

There’s also up to 16 different free-flow condiments such as Char Siew Sauce, Japanese Sesame Sauce, Satay Sauce, Nacho Cheese and many more for you to take your pick— the possibilities are limitless!

If you wish to indulge, there’s Chilli Crab, Black Pepper Crab, Salted Egg Crab and Golden Sauce Crab (seasonal price for all) utilising 1 to 2kg crabs as well.

The crab flesh was firm and naturally sweet. Although the broth was flavourful and creamy, it lacked the essence of crab that I was expecting.

We really enjoyed the Iberico Spain Pork Collar (S$10.80) which was tasty and melted in my mouth. The Prawn Paste (S$10.80) looked plain but its texture was firm and springy, perfect to dip into your favourite sauce.

We also got the Hokkaido Scallop (S$10.80), Cheese Tofu (S$6.80), Quail Egg (S$4.80) and Beef Short Plate Slice (S$10.80).

Crab Claypot - super chilli

Because of the sheer number of sauces available, I had a blast trying different flavour combinations. I paired the Beef Short Plate Slice with the super chilli sauce, and wow, it was amazing! It had a strong spicy kick with a robust shrimpy aftertaste.

Crab Claypot - quail eggs with satay sauce

Even the simple pairing of quail eggs with satay sauce tickled my fancy! Tsk, I guess I just can’t help being low maintenance.

Crab Claypot - crab beehoon

The Signature Crab Bee Hoon Soup (S$6.80) had slices of pork belly, cabbage and thick rice noodles doused in a comforting broth.

Even though it was just a humble combination, the pork belly slices made all the difference. If only it were raining heavily, this dish would have been the perfect option— I was sweating buckets!
