In land-scarce Singapore, something has become more sought after than a BTO (Build-to-Order) flat — a pickleball court. Pickleball, a tennis-like sport, has swept the country by storm, with bookings at the 30 public pickleball courts more than tripling since 2023. Those with a Singpass account can use their ActiveSG credits to pay for the courts.
If you haven’t played pickleball, it’s an American game that resembles tennis, in which players use short-handled bats to send a perforated plastic ball over a net.
With pickleball courts in Singapore being snapped up faster than an upcoming train ride from Singapore to Johor Bahru (JB), what are players to do (apart from travelling to JB)?

Free courts
If there’s something else that Singaporeans love besides free food, it’s free pickleball courts. These pickleball courts don’t require you to fork out a single cent, so play away!
1. Block 435 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 (West)
For those staying in the West, there is an open pickleball court at Block 435 Choa Chu Kang. There is no cost to book the court, so bring along your paddles and balls for an impromptu session.
This pickleball court at Choa Chu Kang is an outdoor, hard court with permanent lines. Portable nets are also available for use. You will get abundant fresh air as the court is open-air. But our advice is to bring a cap along because the afternoon heat can get intense.
After you are done playing, drop by the new Big Appetite hawker centre at Block 309 Choa Chu Kang Centre, across from Keat Hong Community Centre. It offers a variety of local fare under one roof, making it a convenient spot for residents and visitors to dine.
2. Block 546 Serangoon North (Central)
If you reside in the Central area, Block 546 Serangoon North has a pickleball court. It’s one of several free pickleball courts here, making the sport accessible to a wider audience.
It’s a popular spot for residents and is known as a hidden gem (although it is no longer as big of a secret as before). The court is sheltered, which is rare for a public pickleball court.
After you are done playing, drop by the Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre, located at 49A Serangoon Garden Way in the Serangoon Gardens estate. It is a beloved, open-air hawker centre that blends community charm with diverse and affordable cuisine.
Courts with indoor & outdoor options
If you can’t make up your mind on where to play, these courts will appeal to outdoor lovers (but bring a cap along, since it’s Singapore) and those who prefer a sheltered environment.
3. Sengkang Sport Centre (North-East)
In the Northeast, the Sengkang Sport Centre, once known as the Sengkang Sport and Recreation Centre, is co-located with the People’s Association Anchorvale Community Club.
The Sengkang Sport Centre houses 3 outdoor courts, while the Anchorvale Community Club has 3 indoor courts. The indoor courts are so that you don’t have to fret about the weather.
The centre boasts well-maintained courts with excellent lighting, making it suitable for casual players and serious competitors. The presence of showers, lockers and ample parking enhances the overall experience. Additionally, the centre’s proximity to public transport and a riverside park allows players to easily combine exercise with relaxation.
For Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, peak rental of the pickleball courts will cost S$9.50/hour while non-peak rental of the pickleball courts will cost S$4.50/hour.

Pickleball & padel courts under one roof
If you can’t tell the difference between pickleball and padel, you are probably not alone. Pickleball uses a smaller, open court, solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball while padel uses an enclosed court with walls, solid perforated paddles and a depressurised tennis ball.
4. SPH Pickle Padel (East)
The SPH Pickle Padel Hall is the country’s first fully air-conditioned indoor venue that combines pickleball and padel. Spanning over 1,200 square metres, it’s also the largest indoor pickleball facility here with 6 pickleball courts and 3 padel courts, ensuring players can enjoy playing in comfort. Situated near Expo MRT Exit C, the court is easily accessible.
Rental of the indoor, double, concrete pickleball courts varies based on the time of day. At noon on 31 Jul (Thu), a 1-hour slot costs S$30 whereas a 2-hour session costs S$60.

5. Performance Pickleball (North-East)
Performance Pickleball is known for its specialised coaching, professional-grade facilities and vibrant community, making it the perfect option for pickleball enthusiasts in Singapore.
Its founders are 2 of only 4 coaches globally with the Pickleball Global Level 2 standard. They also possess certifications from the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) in Youth Development, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Registry of Coaches (NROC). They are also First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certified.

SAFRA Tampines houses 2 rooftop pickleball courts that offer an open-air experience for players (who don’t mind sweating it out). Moreover, they provide complimentary rental of pickleball paddles and balls, so you don’t even need to have your own equipment to start.
Rental cost varies based on membership and the time of day. SAFRA members can rent a court for S$3.30/hour during off-peak (7am -6pm & 12am – 1am on weekdays) and S$7.20/hour during peak hours (6pm – 12am on weekdays, weekends & public holidays). Guests pay S$5.10/hour during off-peak and S$11.20/hour during peak.

8. Jurong SAFRA (West)
Jurong SAFRA only has 1 outdoor court, so you might not be able to book the court if things get busy. But they offer complimentary equipment rental. This makes it the ideal place to try out the sport without having to commit to purchasing pickleball equipment.
The Jurong SAFRA pickleball court rental rates are S$3.30 per hour for SAFRA members during off-peak hours (7am – 6pm & 12am – 1am on weekdays) and S$7.20 per hour during peak hours (6pm – 12am, weekends & public holidays). For guests, rates are S$5.10 per hour for off-peak and S$11.20 per hour for peak.

If you are looking to play pickleball after working in the Central Business District, the Telok Ayer Roof Terrace has 2 outdoor courts with artsy murals surrounding the space, making it perfect for taking photos. Bookings can be made via the ProBuddy app for S$29/hour.
If you are famished after playing, drop by the China Square Food Centre below. The China Square Food Centre is known for its vibrant atmosphere and culinary offerings, particularly its array of food stalls and the unique smoked duck spaghetti. The centre is conveniently located in the central business district and is a popular lunch spot for workers.

10. Racket Jungle @ Dempsey (Central)
Similar to the Telok Ayer Roof Terrace, Racket Jungle @ Dempsey has scenic pickleball courts. There are murals around the courts, flanked by vegetation. The 4 outdoor courts have painted court lines. Bookings can be made through the ProBuddy app at S$29/hour.
