It’s 5 minutes to lunch time at the office and you’re using up every ounce of brain juice thinking what to makan. Sounds familiar? For those working at The Concourse, Sultan Plaza, Golden Mile Tower and anywhere around Beach Road, there’s a new food court that recently emerged in the basement of City Gate.

Yes, I’m talking about Food HQ Kopitiam & Bar. It had its soft launch on 8 Sep 2025, featuring 8 stalls including a drink stall and a mini bar called 来喝 Bar, perfect for winding down after a stressful day at work. Its grand opening is happening in October and the food court expects 1 or 2 more tenants to join the lineup.

来喝 Bar concocts its cocktails based on familiar local favourites that you can find at a typical kopitiam. That cup of honey lemon that you grab when you’re having an irritated throat is the inspiration for Cup Of Compassion (S$18), made with tieguanyin gin, honey and lemon. There’s also Pink Pearl (S$18) consisting of jasmine tea vodka, pink guava, ginger, pink pepper, and pink salt — fancy, indeed. In addition to those, they also offer a selection of mocktails, as well as sake, wine, and draught beer.

Alright, enough of the booze before I sound like my bossman. Let’s dive into the main affair, the food!

If you’re my ‘enemy’ who loves rice over noodles (boo!), then head over to $5 Fried Rice where all 30 varieties of chao fan costs just 5 bucks each. Choose from options like Kampung Egg Fried Rice, Chicken Cutlet Fried Rice, and Squid Fried Rice in 4 main flavour types: Original Taste, Sambal, X.O., and Mala. There’s also sweet and sour, salted egg chicken, shrimp and squid paired with fried rice, too!

Over at Western Wild Wild, you can enjoy (you guessed it) Western fare like Half Spring Chicken Pasta (S$8), Fish & Chips (S$6), Grilled Chicken Burger (S$6), and even Chicken Wings at S$1 each.

Craving for saba fish or kimchi stuff? 5 Dollar Japanese & Korean Cuisine sells all of its 26 dishes for just S$5. You will no longer have to struggle to see the price of each item or do mental calculations. Savour some comforting Kimchi Soup Set, Saba Fish Teriyaki Chicken Set, or Ebi Fry Udon.

It goes without saying that every food court needs one cai fan stall at least. To make it easy, here is the price list for Hongyun Mix Veg Rice.

  • 3 veg, 1 rice — S$3.50
  • 1 meat, 2 veg and 1 rice — S$4
  • 2 meat, 1 veg and 1 rice — S$4.50

But that’s not all! The stall is also featuring special Super Deal Lunch and Dinner sets at reduced prices. Excellent for sharing in a group, the Set B (S$41, O.P. S$46.60) throws in a whole sauerkraut grilled fish, fish-flavoured shredded pork, garlic lettuce and mapo tofu.

For those who want to see Food HQ Kopitiam & Bar’s full range of delicious offerings, why not stop by and check it out yourself?
