Peh Gao Coffeeshop at Serene Centre is a quaint, contemporary kopitiam-style restaurant that is designed to replicate the look and feel of a classic HDB void deck. The modern restaurant has different day and night menus, and is sure to immerse you in an experience of Asian-style cuisine.

By day, the coffeeshop operates as Peh Gao Coffeeshop (which is Hokkien for White Dog), a breakfast and brunch spot.

Their Kaya Butter Toast (S$2.80) features homemade kaya, and is incredibly fragrant with a rich pandan taste, and has a thicker consistency. Paired with the butter, not only is it visually appealing, but also pleasant to taste.

The Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang (S$15+) boasts an exceptionally tender beef rendang, with a strong belachan taste in the chilli, and a mild coconut flavour in their rice.

The Mapo Tofu Udon (S$12+) turned out to be my favourite of the day. Its bouncy, chewy noodles are paired with a salty, savoury sauce that gives a mild numbing sensation (credit to the Szechuan peppercorn) and an aromatic mala taste. Even after downing almost the entire bowl, it was not too overwhelming on my taste buds.

When the sun sets, the coffeeshop takes on a much darker feel, operating as Orh Gao Taproom (Hokkien for Black Dog), a craft beer taproom offering 14 kinds of beer weekly. These beers are available throughout the day, but there are also exclusive evening specials such as Curry Mussels (S$21+), Kra Pow Mee Tai Mak (S$15+), and Crunchy Chicken Cartilage (S$12+).

Crunchy is an understatement for their Crunchy Chicken Cartilage which, in my humble opinion, pairs best with their beer.

They also have Curry Mussels that are served with focaccia bread lightly toasted on both sides; it had a wonderful bouncy, fluffy texture.

The Kra Pow Mee Tai Mak is a reimagined version of Thai basil pork rice, with an aromatic basil leaf flavour.
Peh Gao Coffeeshop at Serene Centre has currently only soft-launched. For all foodies looking to have a taste of their delicious Asian style cuisines, head down to their opening party on 28 Mar, which will have live music, new merch, and free drinks when you bring your white or black pet dogs along.
