Artisan's Playground - Customers in the food hall

This place is structured almost like a food hall; individual kitchens sectioned by golden signs line the perimeter of the 33,000 sqft dining area, while a combination of colourful chairs and tables fill the centre.

Artisan's Playground - Chefs preparing food

It is home to some of the best local and international chefs who share a common goal— to provide customers with a dining experience like no other.

What I tried at Artisan’s Playground by COOKHOUSE

If you’re constantly finding yourself in the age-old dilemma of not knowing where or what to eat, Artisan’s Playground will be your saviour. They offer a wide variety of cuisines, including Spanish, Italian, Japanese, British, and of course, Malaysian.

Artisan's Playground - Udon. chicken katsu, and sushi rolls

When you look through their extensive menu, you’ll find dishes like Curry Noodles, Luxe Truffle Mac & Cheese, Fish & Chips, various kinds of Rolled Sushi, and many more. Their selection is nothing short of diverse.

Artisan's Playground - MaCao chicken rice

One of their highlight dishes is the TWB MaCao Chicken Rice (RM48) that features free-range MaCao chicken, a special breed of chicken that mainly eats horse hay.

Artisan's Playground - MaCao chicken

Tastefully displayed on a wooden tray, the MaCao Chicken Rice by The Won Bros comes with a bowl of aromatic chicken rice and slow-boiled chicken with crunchy skin and firm yet succulent meat. This dish is accompanied by tangy and savoury chilli sauce, freshly made ginger and scallion salsa, aged cucumber soup, and The Won Brother’s ‘first-drawn’ soy sauce. The best part is that everything is made in house!

Artisan's Playground - Steak and fries
The star of the show was definitely the Steak Frites (RM195), Australian ribeye topped with Cafe de Paris butter and served with crispy french fries. The slightly tangy sauce paired well with steak that was perfectly juicy and tender, and the fries were seasoned throughout and crispy on the outside.

Artisan's Playground - Paella

I thoroughly enjoyed the Steak Frites and Squid Ink Paella (RM118) with grilled calamari and aioli sauce. The paella had that charred, or rather, wok hei flavour, and the socarrat was relished by everyone at the table.

Artisan's Playground - Desserts

One thing that sets Artisan’s Playground apart is its ambience. The moment you step foot into the space, it feels like you’re in a completely different world. Firstly, they have cute robots named after famous chefs that wheel themselves over to your table to deliver your food. How adorable!

Secondly, they have musical performances almost every night. When I was there, I had the pleasure of listening to Clinton Jerome’s powerful vocals and Andre’s incredible piano playing. If you enjoy the combination of live music and dining, this place is certainly for you. I can also see myself having an evening out here with my girlfriends.

Lastly, Artisan’s Playground isn’t solely a dining spot. It’s also a space to hangout and relax. You can request for magazines to be sent to your table for some much needed alone time, or if you and your friend want to battle it out on who’s paying for dessert, opt for a congkak or a card game like UNO.

Final thoughts

There’s something for everyone here; a spacious setting with a beautiful interior, live music in the background while we dined, and fantastic vibes all around, what’s not to love? The space is perfect for both large gatherings and quiet conversations— calming enough to unwind, but lively enough to keep you entertained.

Overall, Artisan’s Playground by COOKHOUSE is a good spot in Kuala Lumpur to hangout with friends and family. There are plenty of options to choose from, and a conducive environment to fully immerse yourself in the experience.
