When my colleague showed me a reel of this glorious bowl of glossy green matcha and a delicate lavender blob perched atop a bed of silky milk pudding, I was instantly sold. That’s how I found myself at Meeting You (meeting said colleague), a humble dessert shop tucked away in Tanjong Pagar Plaza, right at their opening on a Thursday morning.

I’m the kind of person who’d be lured into a dark alley with a sweet treat, I’m afraid. But whatever it was, I just had to get my hands on one of the 50 bowls of double-skin milk pudding, or 双皮奶 (shuang pi nai), they sell each day. One of the owners shared that they limit the quantity to prioritise the freshness and quality across each bowl, and honestly, props to them.
Not that I mind waking up early for dessert anyway, especially where matcha and taro are involved.
What I tried at Meeting You
Meeting You has a clean, modern feel with its cool grey tones, metal tables, and minimalistic decor. What caught my eye was the charming dichotomy of their plating: traditional blue-patterned Chinese porcelain bowls cradling each dessert, just like the ones you’d find in your po po’s kitchen.

What else would I have started with but the Thick Matcha Taro Pudding Double-Skin Milk Tofu (Cold)(S$6.80)? I noted that it looked just as indulgent as it did on Instagram — my first green flag (literally).
The store’s star player — the double-skin milk pudding — was soft and silky, with just the right jiggle. Not quite as firm as tofu, but not as runny as melted ice cream either. Rich with a pronounced milky flavour that was comforting without being jelak, this pudding is one I could easily down on its own.

Now, let’s all chant the highest compliment one can give a dessert: It wasn’t overly sweet! Perhaps this allowed the toppings to shine more, as sitting on top was a shot of earthy matcha that leaned slightly bitter, which played beautifully with the natural sweetness of the creamy taro paste.
Both melded perfectly with the chilled milk pudding, giving every spoonful layers of flavour and texture.

In my gluttonous greed to dig into the matcha-taro-pudding concoction, I had almost forgotten that my Durian Chendol Milk Ice (S$8.50) was slowly melting beside me.
If you’re a durian fan (like me), this one’s for you. A generous heap of a rich durian paste crowned a cloud of finely shaved milk ice, surrounded by the usual chendol suspects: pandan jelly, red beans, a light drizzle of gula melaka, plus a special guest appearance by agar-agar.

The pandan jelly worms were a miss for me — a little too mushy for my liking, so the only real bite came from the red beans. The agar-agar, while an interesting addition, felt like a song collab where the featured artist barely makes an impact.
Still, the base held it all together, as the airy milk ice mellowed the durian’s intensity just enough without dulling its flavour. It was fragrant, creamy, and super refreshing, perfect for this durian-drenched summer.

To round things off, I got the Classic Three-Colour Paste (S$6.90) that came with black sesame, almond, and pistachio pastes, served warm and side-by-side. Visually, it was stunning. Taste-wise, it was a mixed bag for me.

The black sesame definitely brought the roast, though it veered way too bitter for me. Ask my colleague, my face quite literally scrunched up like a sponge after taking a full dollop.
The almond and pistachio (not pictured in my haste to eat it…) were more mellow, maybe even too mellow. While I appreciate that they kept up the not-too-sweet facade, it felt like the fragrant nuttiness got lost in the process. A tinge bit more sugar would’ve brought the flavours out better.
Texture-wise, there was a bit of inconsistency too. While the black sesame and almond were thick and velvety, the pistachio stood out with a noticeably runnier texture. A bit jarring for what’s meant to be a trio. But you know what they say: there’s always a duo in a trio…
Final Thoughts

I’ll admit, the desserts at Meeting You are considerably pricey, seeing that you can get a plain bowl of double-skin milk pudding for a fraction of the price.
That said, the milk pudding here truly lives up to its acclaim: soft, silky, and thoughtfully paired with toppings (matcha! taro!) that balance richness without toeing into jelak territory.
I can see myself coming here for a quick dessert stop after lunch if I worked in the CBD area. I’d probably skip the pastes, though.
