Zi Char lovers, you are in for a treat as Xiao Hei Tze Char has opened its newest outlet on New Upper Changi Road.
Mr Devid Retanasamy, brand owner of Xiao Hei Tze Char, has launched his signature dishes, which are bound to leave an impression on you and your taste buds at his newest outlet.

If you’re adventurous and also a fan of mala and crab, Xiao Hei Tze Char has the perfect option. You should try the Mala Crab (S$60), which is perfect for those seeking a spicy thrill, as it combines both dishes to create a fiery and savoury dish.
When I spoke to him, Mr Retanasamy told me that he uses his in-house mala recipe made of Xiaohei’s own spice and herb mix, along with his philosophy of not using too much oil in his cooking. This creates a dish that isn’t too heavy, balancing out the herbal aromas and heat.

If seafood isn’t really your style, check out Xiao Hei Tze Char’s Signature Pork Knuckle (S$33). Mr Retanasamy filled me in on how it’s made — first marinated and braised for hours, before crisping up the skin for a tender inside and crispy outside. Biting into it gives the meaty flavour that all meat-lovers would enjoy.

The Big Plate Oyster Omelette (S$38.80) is made from an ultra-crispy egg batter with big Korean oysters. Mr Retanasamy tops it with the famous Xiaohei sambal sauce for a delicious twist on the classic oyster omelette. The sambal brings out a fiery heat and tangy depth, balancing it out with the buttery eggs and the oyster’s saltiness.
If you’re hosting a large group of friends or simply in the area, come and give his signature items a try, as they are exclusive to the Bedok outlet.
