Kam’s Roast Express will be leaving Food Opera at ION Orchard at the end of Jun, but the reason for its exit is disputed.

Executive Director of Kam’s Roast Express, Mr Robert Chua, said in a Facebook post on 2 Jun that they were “kicked out” by the food court, which is managed by Food Republic and under the BreadTalk group.

However, a spokesperson for BreadTalk group said on the same day that they were unable to come to an agreement with Kam’s Roast on the monetary terms of the lease contract.

According to Mr Chua, Kam’s Roast had agreed to the food operator’s last offer and signed a lease acceptance. He commented under his 2 Jun post that the operator put them on hold for a month and subsequently rejected the acceptance.

Meanwhile, BreadTalk’s spokesperson said, “Kam’s Roast was offered a renewal at prevailing market rates and was given the first right of refusal. However, both parties were ultimately unable to reach an agreement on the commercial terms.”

In response to this, Mr Chua made another Facebook post on 3 Jun, challenging BreadTalk to prove their statement. He said in the comments section, “We have evidence to show they lied and also will have reports on all their unreasonable demands and work conduct.”

Additionally, he called for BreadTalk group to issue an apology and for the 2 executives responsible to leave the company.

Kam’s Roast Express has another outlet in Raffles City at The Food Place. The food court is also managed by Food Republic, and Mr Chua said that Kam’s Roast will not renew their contract with the food court when the lease expires 2 years from now.

On 3 Jun, Mr Chua shared that he met up with Mr Alvin Ong from Kopitiam and visited some of Kopitiam’s food courts, suggesting that Kam’s Roast may soon open new outlets there.

I can't cook, but I can eat and tell you if the food is good. I love almost everything that goes with coriander, spring onions or vinegar, but absolutely hate ginger and garlic.
