Frankly, hearing and complaining about price hikes have become things we’ve gotten used to. What’s new, right? Here’s something fresh to spice up the routine – Bedok Chwee Kueh has halved the prices of its chwee kueh!

A member of the Can Eat! SG Facebook group shared the news with the community on 22 Jan – the chwee kueh from the famous stall at Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre is now back at 60 cents per piece and its original size.

For the uninitiated, the stall had previously garnered attention for doubling the portions and, hence, prices of its signature dish in Mar 2023. From there on out, each individual piece would be the size of 2 and priced at S$1.20. It was a move made for hygiene purposes as the number of chwee kueh bowls to be washed daily would be reduced.

For those who prefer their chwee kueh regular-sized, you might have to wait a little longer. It seems that not all 7 of Bedok Chwee Kueh’s outlets have made the change, with a commenter urging the stall to “revert [it] at all branches”.
If you think about it, you’re still paying the same price for 2 regular pieces across all outlets, double-sized or not. Touted as one of the best chwee kuehs in Singapore, it’s still worth your while. These supple white cakes are soft yet toothsome, complemented by some aromatic chye poh and sambal, making for a perfect light breakfast or snack.
