Beng Who Cares Foundation Cooks Up Free Meals For the Needy During ‘Circuit Breaker’

As we progress into the second week of the ‘Circuit Breaker’, more and more people have become affected by this temporary curb on non-essential services, like those living on daily-wage jobs. To show their support in the spirit of #SGUnited, the owners of Beng Who Cooks have started the Beng Who Cares Foundation, an initiative where they cook meals for anyone who can’t afford them.

Opened by three young hawkers, who are exercise junkies, Beng Who Cooks is a humble hawker stall selling affordable and customisable protein bowls at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre. Since this stall is co-owned by Muslims, all their ingredients are sourced from halal suppliers, to provide customers with a well-balanced meal of carbs, proteins, side dishes and add-ons.

Jason Chua and Zhen Long, two hawkers currently running Beng Who Cooks, have launched an initiative to provide free meals for anybody unable to afford them, for the duration of the ‘Circuit Breaker’. As long as they come forward to ask for a meal, Beng Who Cares Foundation will deliver them to those who need it. Children who cannot benefit from proper meals due to school closures can also approach them for meals.

Despite their efforts to inform people that it’s not about the money and that they didn’t want donations, Beng Who Cares Foundation has gained a lot of support from netizens wanting to make donations to their cause. Instead of accepting the money, they want people to help spread word about their initiative, so that those in need can have greater access to food.

They have also collaborated with a neighbouring drinks stall to deliver drinks for customers, and help out the drinks stall as well!
