Quick Summary

Singapore’s tuition centres cater to students from pre-primary to JC, with options ranging from broad subject coverage to specialist subject support. The selection prioritises accessible locations, subject and level coverage, and structured teaching methods, making it useful for students and parents comparing centres based on learning style, academic needs and convenience. Some centres also offer online support, recorded lessons or self-paced study.

As a nation that undoubtedly prioritises studies and academia, Singapore has no shortage of tuition centres. So, how do you actually choose the best tuition centre for yourself or your child? Whether you’re looking for tuition centres that specialise in a wide variety of subjects or specific ones, I’ve got the best options on this list.

If you’re wondering which tuition centre is the best suited to your children’s academic needs, here are the best tuition centres in Singapore.

How I chose the best tuition centres

These are the 3 main criteria I used to decide which tuition centre to recommend:

  • Accessibility and convenience: I picked out tuition centres with branches around Singapore for better accessibility.
  • Subject and level coverage: Most of the tuition centres in this list cater to a wide range of students.
  • Teaching methods: I picked centres with structured teaching methods and the results to back those methods up.

This isn’t a ranked best-to-worst tuition centres list, but a collection of the best tuition centres in my opinion, in no particular order. Pack your bags and get ready to go to these best tuition centres in Singapore

1. The Learning Lab

Best tuition centres - The learning lab

The Learning Lab has 10 outlets in Singapore. It offers lessons from Nursery 2 to Junior College. They cover programmes in Mathematics, Science and English. Their classes are on the smaller side, with 8-13 students on average.

The Learning Lab has its own Teaching and Learning Model (TLM). It is the philosophy that guides what they wish to achieve for each of their students.

The key elements include helping students develop key knowledge, skills and dispositions, achieve learning and performance excellence, and develop a growth mindset to make positive progress both in life and academia.

A highlight of The Learning Lab for me is their Special Programmes. For example, for the Sep Holidays, they focus heavily simulated examination papers; it provides valuable practice for exams as students sit for mock tests, and help improve how they perform under pressure.

2. Raymond Math and Science Studio

Raymond Math and Science Studio (RMSS)’s main focus is in… you guessed it! Mathematics and Science. However, they also cover other subjects beyond just Mathematics and Science. RMSS has branches in Bishan, Marine Parade, Parkway Centre, Punggol, Jurong, Kovan and Tampines, making it easy to access and attend their classes.

For Primary school students, RMSS offers English, Mathematics, Science and Chinese lessons. Lower Secondary school students can take English, Mathematics, Science and Chinese lessons.

For Upper Secondary, more options such as Additional Mathematics, Pure Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Biology), Combined Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Chemistry) are offered as well. Junior College students can choose from Chemistry, Economics, Math and Physics as their tuition options at RMSS.

A wonderful thing about RMSS is that they provide iPads onsite for extra study and consultation sessions. For example, if a student is struggling with a particular topic, the iPad has worksheets along with recorded sessions of their tutors explaining that topic. This aids students in revising difficult chapters along with catching up on missed topics.

3. Zenith Education Studio

Zenith Education Studio was founded in 2019 and currently has 13 outlets across Singapore. They teach students from Primary Schools to Junior Colleges.

For Primary School subjects, it offers English, Mathematics and Science. Secondary School subjects covered include everything except Art. Secondary IP subjects offered are Science, Math and English. Junior College subjects offered by them are Economics, General Paper, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology

Something that caught my attention is that Zenith Education Studio provides their students with 24/7 WhatsApp, Telegram and Zoom online support. This will definitely be helpful to students in need of dire help when burning the midnight oil.

Additionally, they also provide carefully curated notes and “cheat-sheets” along with free consultations and assessment reviews. Best of all, there is an assigned study space available for students to study outside of scheduled tuition classes.

4. Mavis Tutorial Centre

Mavis Tutorial Centre has been around since 1986, making it one of the more established tuition providers in Singapore. Mavis has 17 outlets across Singapore, so it’s highly accessible for students to attend the classes. They support students from Pre-Primary to Secondary

Pre-Primary students can attend their English, Mathematics and Phonics classes. Beyond Pre-Primary, they offer English, Mathematics, Science, Physics, Chemistry and Chinese tuition.

One thing about Mavis Tutorial Centre which I appreciate is its MavisPRO aspect. PRO stands for Physical, Recorded and Online. With this, students have the flexibility to learn anytime, anywhere and however they like. The students can choose between learning face-to-face  in person or joining online lessons from the comfort of home.

Best of all, the lessons are recorded and can be watched and revisited throughout the academic year for revision. I find the fact that the lessons will be recorded particularly useful, as we are all bound to forget, and sometimes need reminders of topics. These recorded sessions can greatly help the students to absorb all the information.

5. Kumon

Best tuition centres - Kumon learning centre

Kumon Singapore has a different approach from regular classrooms. Instead of relying entirely on teacher-led classes and student discussions here and there, its methodology lies with the students themselves. Kumon Singapore’s methods place a strong emphasis on independent learning and allow students to progress at their own pace

Their methods include 4 key aspects, which are studying at the ‘just-right’ level, self-learning, the worksheets and the Kumon instructors who discover and draw out each student’s potential.

Kumon Singapore offers Mathematics, English and Chinese programmes in 3 age groups, namely ages 3-4, ages 5-12 and ages 13 and above

What stands out to me about Kumon is their focus on consistency; slow and steady wins the race. Students work through the worksheets and build their skills over time, progressing to the next stage. For an independent child who may not need constant teacher interaction, Kumon’s methods can be a comfortable way to learn and revise.

Mind Stretcher has been operating since 2002, with a proven track record of student results. The centre has 30 locations across Singapore. They have produced 4 President’s Scholars, wow! Mind Stretcher offers programmes for Pre-Primary to Secondary school students.

For Pre-Primary, there is a Pre-Kindergarten Phonics and Reading class. Kindergarten 1 and 2 students can attend their Phonics and Reading classes, along with their respective English and Mathematics Primary 1 preparation lessons.

Mind Stretcher splits their Primary school lessons into Lower and Upper Primary. Lower Primary programmes include English, Mathematics, Science, Integrated Chinese, Writing Lab and High Ability Growth (building problem-solving skills).

Their Upper Primary Programmes include English, Chinese 4Cs, Higher Chinese 4Cs, Science, Mathematics and PSLE A* Writer.

One distinctive feature of Mind Stretcher is how they incorporate ‘scaffolding’ into their worksheets and materials.

Scaffolding is their step-by-step approach to improving the students’ learning experience. It begins with learning the concept, followed by guided practice with frameworks, templates and more, and, finally, trying questions independently. This will definitely help build confidence through repeated practice.

7. Stalford Learning Centre

Stalford Learning Centre started in 1998. The centre offers over 120 courses and has 21 outlets, all near MRT stations for convenience. Stalford Learning Centre offers programmes for Pre-Primary all the way to Junior College students. Their passionate teachers are subject-matter experts. Some have even authored official textbooks and assessment books!

For Pre-Primary, they offer Phonics and Reading, English and Heurika Mathematics, Chinese Literacy and ArtScience for Nursery 1 and 2 and Kindergarten 1. Students in Kindergarten 2 have English and Heurika Mathematics replaced by a preparatory programme for Primary 1.

Primary subjects include English, Creative Writing, Mathematics, Science, Chinese, Higher Chinese, along with Chinese Creative Writing and Oral.

All subjects except for humanities and art are covered for their Secondary School programmes

Junior College students can attend their General Paper, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Chinese Literature and Chinese Language classes.

The centre also offers crash courses for major examinations such as PSLE, O-Levels and A-Levels. I believe this additional revision support can aid students in their preparation for the big exams.

8. AGrader Learning Centre

AGrader Learning Centre offers lessons for students in Pre-Primary to Secondary 4. The centre has 19 outlets across Singapore, making it accessible for all. They offer online, physical and self-paced lessons.

Pre-Primary students have physical lessons, covering subjects like Math, English and Chinese. The centre offers Primary 1-6 subjects of English, Mathematics, Chinese, Science and Creative Writing as physical classes. Online English, Mathematics and Science lessons are available for Primary 5-6 students.

Secondary school subjects offered are English and Mathematics. Primary 1 to Secondary 4 students may opt for self-paced lessons. This self-paced lesson option is appealing as it allows students the flexibility and convenience to learn at their own speed. It also allows for targeted learning and is engaging and interactive

Besides the scheduled tuition classes, AGrader value-adds with their extra after-class learning resources. The resources are called the Everloop Improvement System. It consists of Past Year Paper Practice Packs, Basic Build-Up Module, Revision and Topical Packs, as well as LessonTube modules for any missed classes. These extra resources help to boost the students’ studying and revision.

9. Edufirst Learning Centre

Edufirst Learning Centre offers tuition for Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary students across its 27 outlets in Singapore. They offer both online and physical tuition classes.

Pre-Primary subjects include Phonics, Writing, English, Mathematics, and Mother Tongue (Chinese)

Primary school students can attend English, Creative Writing, Mother Tongue (Chinese/Malay/Tamil), Mathematics and Science classes.

The centre splits Secondary school subjects into Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary. For Lower Secondary, subjects include English, Mother Tongue (Chinese/Malay/Tamil), Mathematics and Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics)

More subjects are covered for Upper Secondary students, namely English, Social Studies, Elective/Pure Geography/Literature/History, Mother Tongue (Chinese/Malay/Tamil), Elementary Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Principles of Accounts, Combined/Pure Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics).

The centre emphasises a personalised and holistic approach to learning, and they do so by identifying and addressing students’ strengths and weaknesses. One way they do this is with their smaller class sizes.

These smaller classes of 4-8 students allow for more opportunities for individual guidance. It may also encourage the student to participate and ask questions more confidently.

Another thing worth noting is their ‘homework clinic’, where students can arrange for a free homework consultation with their tutors on no-tuition days. This provides students with additional academic support beyond their scheduled tuition classes.

10. Miracle Math Tuition Centre

Miracle Math Tuition Centre started in 2007 and specialises in Mathematics tuition. They support students with Mathematics tuition for Primary 4-6 and Secondary 1-4, including Additional Mathematics for Secondary 3-4. Online and physical tuition sessions are held concurrently.

The centre has locations in both Bedok and Tampines, making it particularly accessible for students living in the east. However, the centre states on their website that many students travel from other parts of Singapore just to attend their lessons.

According to the centre, their students improve by an average of 2 or more grades within 6 to 18 months when attending their classes. Do note that individual results may still naturally vary.

I think that the specialist approach works well for students who consistently struggle with Mathematics. Having a tuition centre dedicated solely to one subject will help students obtain targeted support for that subject for faster results.

Choose based on the student’s academic needs, learning style and access to support. The Learning Lab suits students who prefer smaller classes and structured programmes, while Raymond Math and Science Studio is useful for Maths and Science support with onsite revision tools.

Mavis Tutorial Centre offers flexible physical, online and recorded lessons. Kumon suits independent learners and Mind Stretcher offers structured scaffolding. Stalford Learning Centre suits broad subject needs and exam preparation, while AGrader Learning Centre offers self-paced study. Edufirst Learning Centre‘s advantage is smaller classes, while Miracle Math Tuition Centre focuses solely on Mathematics.
