Beverly Hills Cheesecake: Famous US Cheesecake Factory Cheesecakes From S$7.90 At City Hall

I have always seen people on social media posting about The Cheesecake Factory, a popular restaurant in the United States (US). Glimpses of their menu showcased an extensive selection of cheesecakes, desserts, pizzas and more which piqued my interest.

Now, the thought of wanting to try the American-brand’s renowned cheesecakes don’t seem so far-fetched (literally) anymore.

Beverly Hills Cheesecake, which features a cake menu from The Cheesecake Factory, has opened at Raffles City Shopping Centre.

Unsurprisingly, their cheesecakes sit on the pricier side, ranging from S$7.90 – S$10.90 a slice. Just how good are they? I had to jump on the hype and bring back a few slices to share with the office.

Without doubt, I had to try their Classic Cheesecake (S$7.90). I also picked up a slice each of their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cheesecake (S$10.90), Godiva Double Chocolate Cheesecake (S$10.90), Mango Key Lime Cheesecake (seasonal) (S$8.90), Wild Strawberries and Cream Cheesecake (S$9.90) and Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake (S$10.90) for variety.

Back at the office, the decision to start with the Classic Cheesecake (S$7.90) was a simple one.

Taking my first bite, I found the cake to be creamy with a melt-in-mouth consistency. The cheese flavour was obvious but a little light. Though I don’t mind that, I would have liked a richer mouthfeel.

I also enjoyed the crust, which was crumbly but sturdy. My only gripe was that the slice was slightly small. Though, I suspect what size you get is by chance, as some of the other slices I got were bigger.

Overall, my colleagues and I enjoyed the good old classic cheesecake. However, we felt that for S$7.90 a slice, it was not mind-blowing, and we could find similar good cheesecakes at a more affordable price.

Next up, we tried the Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake (S$10.90). Let me preface the review of this flavour by saying that I am not a huge fan of cherry, so I might be biased. But if you’re a fan of black forest cakes, this is a similar flavour, minus the chocolate sponge cake and whipped cream.

A slice comes with a chocolate topcoat, and generous chunks of cherries stuffed within the cake. You get a burst of sweetness and sourness from the fruit with each bite, which I imagine cherry lovers will appreciate. My colleague, who enjoyed the cake, mentioned that it reminded him of Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia.

If you’re a fan of cherries, give this a try!

I didn’t have any particular expectations for this flavour, but the first bite of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cheesecake (S$10.90) (top) made me sit up in attention as I tried to comprehend the flavours and textures in my mouth.

The cake was reminiscent of my favourite Reese Peanut Butter Cups, with a combination of sweet and salty notes. I have a sweet tooth, so the cake was not overly sweet for me, but some of my colleagues found it a tad too sugary.

I also noticed how the peanut butter did not have a sticky consistency, which made chewing the cake easy. The nuts scattered on the top layer also added a nice crunchy texture.

Price-wise though, the cake is a lil’ pricey at S$10.90, and I would reserve it for times when I need a sweet pick-me-up.

This slice of Wild Strawberries and Cream Cheesecake (S$9.90) (right) was aesthetically pleasing and would make a good Instagram photo.

Taste-wise, it was reminiscent of the Magnolia strawberry ice cream that we used to enjoy as kids. The strawberry flavour was light but sweet, and the whipped cream wasn’t too heavy. The creamy strawberry mousse also paired well with the fluffiness of the cake.

For sweet flavours like this, I know it can get a bit too much after multiple bites. I liked that the cake was not overly sugary — it’s a good and light dessert to have after a meal.

After taking a break from the rich sweet flavours with the strawberry cheesecake, it was back to the Godiva Double Chocolate Cheesecake (S$10.90).

I was expecting your usual milk chocolate taste, but I was greeted with a hint of bitterness from the dark chocolate. I prefer my chocolate sweet rather than bitter, but I found that the dark chocolate was light and easy on my palate.

The whipped cream added some sweetness to the dark chocolate cake, while the chocolate mousse on the top layer was light and paired well with the creaminess of the cake.

This dark chocolate cake was a nice alternative to my usual milk chocolate choice, and if I was ever craving something bittersweet, it would be my pick.

To end off the cake tasting, we refreshed our palates with a fruity Mango Key Lime Cheesecake (S$8.90).

I found the taste to be similar to your usual mango cake, but the mango flavour was a lil’ artificial-tasting. I also could not really identify the key lime flavour and would have liked it to be more obvious. I did like the cheesecake addition to the usual mango cake though.

For S$8.90 a slice, I think it is quite pricey for a fairly ordinary mango cake, and would probably opt for other more affordable mango cakes.

Did the cheesecakes from Beverly Hills Cheesecake live up to the hype? Well, while I found the usual flavours like mango and strawberry to be pretty ordinary, I felt that the more unique flavours like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cheesecake and Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake would be a worthy re-purchase.

If you’re curious to try out the cheesecakes for yourself, my advice is to go for the more unique flavors to make your money’s worth. Head down to the Beverly Hills Cheesecake outlet to experience the cheesecakes yourselves!
