A unique pasar malam has opened outside Hillion Mall and Bukit Panjang MRT, operating from 22 April to 5 May.
We’ll say it’s unique because despite being smaller than most pasar malam’s, there’s quite a spread of uncommon pasar malam foods available here.
The Teochew meat puff stall appeared to be the crowd favourite, attracting an extremely long queue. Some may know it better as the rarely found Fuzhou oyster cake.
We tried the Prawn Pork (S$3) and Vegetable Fritter (S$1.80). The steaming hot pork and prawn filling encased in the crispy dough was definitely worth the 20-minute wait.
The Octopus Puff, Oyster Puff and Crab Pork Puff are available for S$3 each as well, while the Scallop Pork Puff costs a little more at S$3.50.
If there’s only one stall you have time for, I’ll definitely recommend this for the sake of nostalgia and their moreish piping hot puffs.
Other stalls we thought were pretty enticing also included Bangkok Lok Lok at a rather affordable price point of S$0.80 per stick.
The Sweet Potato Ball stall also drew a crowd, priced at S$3 for 10. Freshly rolled and deep-fried on the spot, it’ll definitely make a good finger snack.
Other seemingly unconventional stalls include Cheesy Goreng Pisang and Milk Bro. The latter rides on the brown sugar milk wave, featuring Singapore’s first halal flaming bubble tea. Lightly torching the surface of the bubble tea foam, it resembles the caramelised surface of a crème brûlée.
Of course, you can get your Ramly burger here as well if these newfangled treats are not for you.
A rather strategically located pasar malam right outside the MRT, be sure to drop by with your family for a late night snack and satisfy some cravings.
