A melting pot of diverse cultures, Singapore has all the different kinds of food you can think of. However, even the most exotic dishes you’ve tried probably still can’t prepare you for what I’m about to reveal.
A cafe in Penang, Malaysia is actually serving up a Century Egg Cheesecake (RM42 per slice).
Yes, you read that right. Moody Cow Cafe Penang has taken the traditional Chinese ingredient and infused it into a classic dessert.
You can actually see huge chunks of century egg in the cross-section of the cake.
But that’s not all: they’ve also topped the cake with a layer of ikan bilis and peanuts.
As is the case for many unconventional dishes out there, you’ll either love it or hate it. I’m a fan of century egg, especially with porridge. So I’m actually quite curious to find out how it’ll taste like in a cake.
I’m guessing that the saltiness of the ikan bilis and peanuts serves as a counterbalance to the creamy century egg’s savoury flavour. More interestingly, the cake’s chocolate base and cream cheese filling will add sweet flavours to the dish.
If weird cake creations are your thing, Moody Cow Cafe also has other strange creations. Think Cempedak Cheesecake, Chicken Floss Salted Egg Cake, as well as Musang King Cheesecake!
Do you think this creation will sit well with our Singaporean palates? I’ve already tried a muffin with bak kwa topping, so I’m game for anything.
