Back on top! Changi Airport has reclaimed the title of World’s Best Airport at the Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Held on 15 March 2023 at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Amsterdam, the event also recognised Changi Airport as the World’s Best Airport Dining and for World’s Best Airport Leisure Amenities.
Crowne Plaza Changi Airport was named the World’s Best Airport Hotel. It has won the title in an astounding 8 years in a row!
This was the 12th time Changi Airport has been recognised as the world’s premier air hub by Skytrax. It reclaimed the title after relinquishing it to Doha’s Hamad International Airport as the pandemic raged in 2021 and 2022. Hamad International Airport won 2nd place this time.
In 3rd place was Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. Unsurprisingly, Haneda Airport also won the title of World’s Cleanest Airport. The Japanese populace is known for its almost obsessive dedication to cleanliness.
The title of Best Airport Staff in Asia went to Seoul’s Incheon Airport. It was also recognised as the world’s 4th best airport while winning World’s Best Airport Staff Service and the World’s Best Airport Immigration Processing.
Skytrax introduced the new category of Art in the Airport in 2023. The inaugural title went to Houston Airport System in recognition of the art on display at the airports under their purview, William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport. Unlike the other categories which are judged on passenger sentiment, the winner of this award is decided by a Skytrax judging panel.
Changi Airport is the fourth-busiest airport in the world, seeing close to 40 million travellers last year. However, passenger numbers are at just 80% of pre-pandemic levels. They are expected to recover completely by 2024.
