I’ve got to be honest, when I first heard about the Gardens by the Bay Christmas Train Show, I expected to see a display of life-sized trains that you can step into. However, when I visited Flower Dome for the actual experience, what I got was smaller but equally larger-than-life.

Running from 23 Nov to 4 Jan, the Christmas Train Show is a beautiful display of model trains, with tracks laid across flowers and landscapes inspired by the United States of America, Denmark and Singapore. You will step into a miniature world of railway and Christmas cheer, as model trains move all around you. Take your time, look around and try to notice every little thing. Because if there is one word I would use to describe the Christmas Train Show, it’s detail.

From the handcrafted structures and recreated landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Grand Central Terminal, to the 7,000 plants of over 130 varieties, to the realistic G-scale replicas of trains, every corner of the Christmas Train Show bleeds detail. I mean, I even saw one of the trains puffing smoke from its front like an actual steam locomotive.

Amongst the different display zones, proud Singaporeans will also be delighted to see one dedicated to our nation in true SG60 fashion. This area features a replica of SMRT’s North-South and East-West Line MRT train, traversing past iconic Singapore landmarks like the Merlion, Dragon Playground and Raffles Place MRT Station.

Kids and fans of LEGO will also love this colourful 6.5-metre-long Nyhavn harbourfront made of LEGO. A long Danish-style train can also be spotted moving across the side of the harbour from time to time. For those of you who are fans of Thomas & Friends, you can also try spotting the friendly tank engine at a Santa Village somewhere else in the Christmas Train Show.

The Gardens by the Bay Christmas Train Show is now open, and you can visit it by purchasing an entry to the Flower Dome. For Singaporeans, admission tickets are S$12 for adults and S$8 for seniors and children. To get your tickets, visit the official website.
